What authors do you think will be most remembered from the 20th Century?
Books & Authors at 02 November 2010 02:11:03
QOnes with 'staying power' like Mark Twain and Charles Dickens from the 19th Century.
ASteinbeck, Hemingway, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Fitzgerald, Vonnegut, Harper Lee (yeah I know she only wrote one book, but WHAT a book), Dr. Seuss, J.K. Rowling (I'm a librarian, Harry's not going away any time soon) & Toni Morrison. At least in the U.S. these would be my picks. Ishiguro,Murikami, McEwan, Rushdie, Garcia Marquez all have books that will be read well into the next century.

How many British Royal couples have remained faithfull to each other?
Royalty at 17 April 2012 04:04:11
QCharles cheated on Diana with "Kanga" aka Dale Elizabeth Harper and Camilla.Diana cheated on Charles with quite a few men.Prince Phillip cheated on the Queen in earlier life.Mark Phillips cheated on Princess Anne etc etcWith the exception of the newlyweds are there any British Royals that you believe have been faithfull to each other or is infidelity part and parcel of Royal life?
AIt would be very difficult for a royal, or even the spouse of a royal, to remain loyal. There would be many temptations. I doubt that ANY of them have remained loyal. If William and/or Kate haven't already succumbed to a little dalliance in their (almost a decade of) relationship, it will happen within the 2nd decade....for sure! After all, royalty traditionally have always had their very discrete (sometimes not even discrete) 'companions'; it's the nature of the role. All those people throwing themselves at you, the pressure, the expectations, the celebrity!! Tough, very tough indeed!

How old are the characters in To Kill a Mockingbird?
Books & Authors at 07 May 2009 03:05:27
QSpecifically - Jean Louise “Scout” Finch, Atticus Finch, Jeremy Atticus “Jem” Finch, Arthur “Boo” Radley, Bob Ewell, Charles Baker “Dill” Harris, Miss Maudie Atkinson, Calpurnia, Aunt Alexandra, Mayella Ewell, Tom Robinson, Link Deas, Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose, Nathan Radley, Heck Tate, Mr. Underwood, Mr. Dolphu Raymond, Mr. Walter Cunningham, Walter Cunningham. If there isn't a for sure, definite age is there an estimate? Thanks.
AAccording to Gradesaver.com, Scout was 6 years old, Jem was 10 years old, Mayella Ewell was 19 years old, and Tom Robinson was 25 years old. But for the other characters, Harper Lee didn't reveal their "exact" ages. So I'm just going to estimate their age according to their description: Atticus- around his 40's Dill- 7 (it says that he is a little older than Scout)Boo- around his late 30's Bob Ewell- around his 50'sMiss Maudie- around her 30'sCalphurnia- around her 50's Aunt Alexandra- around her 40'sMrs. Dubose- around her 70'sHeck Tate- around his 40's Adolphus Raymond- around his 50's Walter Cunningham- around his 50'sWalter Cunningham Jr.- 7 (he attends first grade with Scout)

What can you tell me about Charles Town\Harper's Ferry, WV?
Other - United States at 15 February 2008 03:02:56
QI'm looking for a place where my and the hubbie can go and both have a good time. I'm a state park\national park and historical site kind of tourist and for him it just depends on the place... So is there anything that you can tell first hand about those places? (I've found and check out the websites already.) Thanks!
AI have lived in Hapers Ferry, WV.It is a beautiful area. Depending on the time or year you go, depends on what you can do.From about March thru October, there is a ghost tour. A lady walks you around the town and tells ghost stories/folk tales and ledgends, from the Civil War, very good. There are all kinds of quaint little shops, down in the old part of town, where the ghost tour is.If you are interested in the Civil War era, this is the place to go.There is also White water rafting and tubing in the summer.Antietam Battlefield isn't too far, in Shepardstown, WV.Also in Shepardstown is a little Barvarian Restaruant that is suppose to be very good.Berkley Springs is about an hour or so away (NW), natural springs and spa.If you like shopping, Fredrick, MD, Leesburg, Va (Tysons Corner) also an awesome Greek Rest. there as well (Knoss), Winchester, VA is close by.There is a little zoo like right above Fredrick, VA and down I-81 past Winchester, VA is another small animal safari type place.Of course if you want to go into the Washington D.C, go down toward Leesburg to Vienna/Fairfax, park your car and ride the Metro all day for about 5 bucks after 9am. National Zoo is there as well, great Zoo.There is a lot to do, if you know what you want to do.Hope this helps.Have FUN!
