Abstract

A computer having a backplane and a motherboard disposed on the backplane along with expansion slots for receiving expansion cards. The backplane further having circuitry coupled thereto for performing an alarm function where the alarm circuitry is not coupled to a card occupying one of the expansion slots, instead the alarm circuitry is coupled to the backplane in a manner so that it is not directly under the supervision of the system processor on the motherboard. The alarm circuitry including processors which use the LON bus protocols for receiving and transmitting information relating to environmental conditions in the PC.

Claim

We claim: 1. A computer comprising: a protective case; a backplane disposed inside said protective case; a system microprocessor coupled to said backplane; a plurality of expansion slots, each coupled to the backplane and a first bus which is operated under the supervision of the system microprocessor, each of the expansion slots having a connector for receiving an expansion card; said backplane coupled to alarm circuitry for monitoring environmental conditions inside said case, said alarm circuitry including a bus transceiver processor for transmitting and receiving second bus signals over a second bus without direct supervision of the system microprocessor; said second bus including a two wire local operating network connection which is polarity insensitive; and wherein said second bus signals are organized in a predetermined fashion which include data structures for accomplishing end-to-end acknowledgment and data structure for detecting collisions of data packets transmitted over said second bus. 2. A computer comprising: a protective case; a backplane disposed inside said protective case; a system microprocessor coupled to said backplane; a plurality of expansion slots, each coupled to the backplane and a first bus which is operated under the supervision of the system microprocessor, each of the expansion slots having a connector for receiving an expansion card; said backplane coupled to alarm circuitry for monitoring environmental conditions inside said case, said alarm circuitry including a bus transceiver processor for transmitting and receiving second bus signals over a second bus without direct supervision of the system microprocessor; said second bus including a two wire local operating network connection which is polarity insensitive; wherein said system processor is disposed on a motherboard and thereby indirectly coupled to said backplane; and wherein said second bus signals are organized in a predetermined fashion which include data structures for accomplishing end-to-end acknowledgment and data structure for detecting collisions of data packets transmitted over said second bus. 3. A computer of claim 2 wherein said second bus signals include data structures therein for providing network management services for installation and configuration of nodes on said second bus and for downloading of software over said second bus for use in connection with said alarm circuitry.

Abstract

A bicycle carrier for the transport of small animals is provided. The carrier includes a platform member coupleable to a top tube of a bicycle frame and a brace member coupleable to handlebars of the bicycle. The platform member includes a base member, a plurality of side members, and a coupling member. The side members extend from one or more longitudinal edges of the base member so as to define a pod. The coupling member extends from the base member and couples the platform member to a seat post of the bicycle. The brace member includes at least one spring and a bumper member. The at least one spring may extend perpendicularly from the handlebars. The bumper member may be coupled to a distal end of the at least one spring. The brace member may assist in the positioning of the animal during transport, including for example, over uneven terrain.

Abstract

A system for managing access point functionally and configuration includes a server that is coupled to a computer network and configured to communicate with an access point via the computer network. The access point is configured to couple a mobile device to the computer network by providing a wireless link between the mobile device and the access point. The access point is further configured to produce a status point regarding the access point and the server is configured to receive the status report from the access point following a trigger event at the access point. In other examples, the server is further configured to transmit a response message and/or a configuration file to the access point in response to the status report that is received at the server. Abstract

The mechanism for inserting, extracting, sensing and locking a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) in an electronic system provides both easier use and a longer service life for the PCBA as compared to a mechanism having two locking handles. Insertion, extraction, sensing and locking are simplified because a single handle can be used rather than two handles. The service life of the associated PCBA is extended because the forces applied to the PCBA are synchronous and applied more evenly than a PCBA having two handles, which reduces bending and other forces that can cause component failure.

Claim

What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus comprising: a face plate to receive a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA); a first jaw pivotably connected to the face plate at a first pivot point; a handle connected to the first jaw, the handle to pivot the first jaw about the first pivot point; a second jaw pivotably connected to the face plate at a second pivot point; and a link connected to the second jaw and to the handle to cause the second jaw to pivot about the second pivot point in response to movement of the handle, the first jaw and the second jaw to interact with first and second railing components, respectively, wherein action of the first and second jaws causes a substantially constant load to be applied to the face plate and to the PCBA. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising: a latch/locking spring connected to the face plate; and a latch pawl connected to the face plate, wherein the latch pawl and the latch/locking spring maintain the handle in a locked position to cause the first jaw and the second jaw to apply the substantially constant load to the face plate to maintain the PCBA within the chassis of the electronic system. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a kick-back spring connected to the face plate, the kick-back spring to force the handle away from the face plate when the handle is not maintained in a first position by a latch pawl. 4.

Abstract

A subscriber information entity of a home wireless carrier network may receive an authentication request for a user device from a network element of a partner wireless carrier network. The authentication request may include a network element identifier of the network element. An authentication response for the authentication request is then sent to the network element of the partner wireless carrier network. Further, the network element identifier of the network element is stored in a subscriber profile for the user device. A registration request for the user device is then received from a particular network element of a wireless carrier network, in which the registration request includes a corresponding network element identifier of the particular network element. A registration response to the particular network element of the wireless carrier network may be sent when the corresponding network element identifier matches the network element identifier.
