Minnesota Concert Opera (MCO) is a non-profit, professional concert opera company, based in downtown Minneapolis, MN at THE COWLES CENTER for Dance and the Performing Arts. MCO performs full-length operas in in concert format using the original language, guest artists, opera chorus, piano or orchestra, and English surtitles. This unique and portable performance style allows MCO to bring world-class singing to Minnesota’s communities, introducing a large variety of opera (and occasionally musical theater) repertoire to all age groups and demographics. Using some of our state’s finest up-and-coming singers, side-by-side with seasoned guest artists, MCO connects with every community in which they perform, interacting with local choirs contracted by the company to sing the opera chorus.
Because MCO performances use minimal sets, costumes and props, and is usually accompanied by piano or small orchestra, it is cost effective and extremely portable. This gives our company the ability to perform in areas of the state that a full-blown opera company could never reach, and the ability to travel out of state and internationally. And since the interpretation and performance of the music is the company’s main emphasis, only the finest singers and musicians are engaged.
