QI've just read a book about the incidents that occurred at Roswell in 1947 (the crashed UFO that was quickly modified to a crashed weather balloon). I just wondered how many people out there believe it was a UFO that crashed and was quickly covered up by the government and military or just an urban myth? I have to say that the book is pretty compelling that something really did happen there and was hushed up. The book in question is "Witness To Roswell" by Tom Carey & Donald Schmitt. It'sd not the first thing I've read about Roswell but it's the most convincing!The "witnesses" to the events all those years ago are gradually dwindling - either dying or Alzheimer victims. It seems a lot were threatened or had there families threatened and made to sign affidavits not to speak about any of the events that occurred. It fascinates me - personally, I think "something" did happen there.

QI remember the flap in the early '50s about UFOs and decided by 1970 I knew everything anyone needed to know about the 'Roswell' crash. I figured we'd never have proof one way or the other.Then a couple of years ago someone gave me a recent book written about it, interviews with all the oldsters dying off who were still around and there when things happened. Deathbed statements etc. I had the book around a while only began reading it because the person who gave it to me was pestering me about it.After a couple of chapters that all changed and my certainties we'd never know the answers began to fade. It led me to think this was something I was probably wrong about, along with a lot of my other dearly-held certainties.Then a while back I learned the wife-side of the couple owning the ranch I live on is part of the family of Loretta and Dee Proctor, mentioned repeatedly in Witness to Roswell. Loretta is still alive [96] and spry, alert, even fun. I visited her a few hours a couple of weeks ago and dredged all her memories of the event, as well as those of her daughter [whom she lives with].Would our lives have been any different if we'd known the truth?Would we have been any less certain about all the other things we 'knew' but turned out to be mistaken by hindsight?Witness to Roswell: Unmasking the 60-Year Cover-Up Thomas J. Helps to prove our logic didn't have much to do with reality and that 'common sense' isn't common enough to trouble ourselves with finding.Gracias,JackBlu: You might be right. They all look like peanuts out of the same shell to me. Not a nickle's worth of difference where the average citizen can see it. Probably the bankers and military industrial complexers figure to make more from one party or the other but for people just struggling to get through life we're on a different planet from them.
