AThe answer is yes, but. Every D-Link Router I've ever used (Wired or Wireless), which I assume would include the DI-704p will let you use its switch/wireless facilities as a stand-alone device if you disable the "router" functions. So, before you can just plug it into your network, you'll need to do a little configuration first. Step one is to plug a computer into one of the "LAN" ports (make sure it's not also connected to your original network, because otherwise things will get confusing). Open up your favourite web browser and type in the following:192.168.0.1If it's the first time you've ever tried to configure the DI-704p, then type in the user name "admin" and leave the password blank. Otherwise, type in the password you used last time. (If you cannot use this user name/password combination, or if you forget your password, use a paper-clip to hold down the "reset" indent on the back of unit for fifteen seconds. The user name "admin" with a blank password should then work.) There are two things you'll need to do to set up the DI-704p for use on the Linksys network. The first is to set the unit's IP address to something within the subnet mask of the Linksys standard network. Click on the "LAN" button (under the "Home" tab), and the first option should be "IP Address". It should say "192.168.0.1", whereas all of the IP Addresses on the Linksys network are "192.168.1.x" where x means any number between 0 and 255. So, change the "IP Address" option to 192.168.1.something (I would suggestion 192.168.1.2 because it will be easy to remember). When you hit the apply button you should get a message saying something like "Device Restarting" or something like that, and then a "Cannot Find Server" error message. This is okay. It can't find the server because you just changed the IP address of the server.To fix that, type the new IP address you just gave the unit into the address bar, and it will ask you to log in again (as above). Go the "DHCP" button (under the "Home" tab). Select the "Disable" radio button and then hit the "Apply" button at the bottom of the page. It will say something like "Applying settings" and then take you back to the configuration page with all your settings saved. You should now be able to connect the device to your existing home network by plugging a cable from the "LAN" side of your Linksys Broadband Wireless Router in the "LAN" (NOT the "WAN") side of the DI-704p. The extra advantage of doing it this way is that you can then plug any other computer into the "LAN" side of the DI-704p and it will work just as if its plugged into the Linksys unit. Now, if everything is hooked up properly (i.e. using only the "LAN" side of the DI-704p), and everything is configured properly (i.e. the DI-704p has an IP address that starts "192.168.1.x") then any computer that is attached to either the DI-704p or the Linksys router (either wired or wirelessly) will have have full network access to it. In other words, any computer connected to either device by any connection method will act as if it's plugged into the DI-704p directly, at which point you can follow the rest of the configuration documentation included with the DI-704p. (Having never used that particular product I cannot give you specific configuration instructions. That being said, D-Link's documentation is usually very thorough.)(Just as a quick aside, I should mention that if at any point you find you can do something with a wired network connection but not a wireless connection, the Wireless Router is usually to blame. Personally, I've had some bad experiences with Linksys Wireless Routers, and if I was doing the setup for my own network I'd have used the DI-704p as the router and then disabled the router settings on the Linksys wireless router and just used it as an access point, but that's an entirely different issue, although if you do want to do that, the steps are very similar, the only difference being that you'd make the DI-704p have IP address "192.168.0.1" and the Linksys wireless router IP address of "192.168.0.2" or something like that. But as I say, if everything is working as it should, you should notice virtually no difference between a wired and wireless network connection.)

AThis is something that is provided through your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and is needed to secure your wireless connection so that the whole neighborhood isn't piggybacking onto your wireless service..lol. You can call your ISP and they can walk you through the steps on finding where it is located. I don't know who your ISP is but if it's QWEST then all you have to do is type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of your internet browser through an ethernet connection and you should be able to find the wireless settings tabs where all this information is listed. If it's not QWEST then you'll have to speak with a rep from the company

AMake sure you are using the correct security on your pc to match the router. Check your dads, see if he is using wep, wpa tkip, or aes, or wpa2. If they match, then check and see if your router is blocking the dhcp response from the router. If you can, pause the firewall for a few minutes while you try to connect.

AYou shouldn't need to connect to an ad hoc network between the computers directly, just connect all the computers to the router, and then access them using the internal network IP addresses (I have that same router, and that's what I do. The IP's will be 192.168.0.10 for the first computer connected, 192.168.0.11 for the second, and so on. You can use ipconfig on the windows boxes to find out what their IP is for sure)Sometimes you just need to reset the router. Unplug it for a few seconds and then plug it back in again. If your linux box can connect to the internet proper, then you know you got it right and it's just a matter of figuring out the IP addresses.
