Bryans (Napier University) at 11 November 2006 05:11:35 > > > Abortion, a right or murder, the question may soon become moot, how will we cope?Politics at 27 January 2011 06:01:45 QIn the United States (via countless court and medical opinions) electrical activity in the brain is considered the irrefutable sign of life, or lack thereof. General Electric, Seamans and other medical instrument companies have prototypes of systems that can detect electrical activity in the brains of 16 week old fetuses. These systems will become available within the next 5 years. What will become of the question of if a fetus is life or not when this happens?I'm not really Maynard's Girl, I am a 44yo PhD Electrical Engineer that works for one of these companies. ASince most abortions (88%) happen in the first 13 weeks of pregnancy, this is a moot point.

How much we pay to the government for this sad reality..............?Other - News & Events at 18 June 2007 03:06:38 QCostNow let us consider spending. According to Portfolio.com, the combined cost of the Iraq war (Operation Iraqi Freedom, in Pentagon jargon) and its companions, Operation Enduring Freedom, in Afghanistan, and the Global War on Terror, could easily top $600 billion this year. But the overall cost is even higher, exceeding perhaps $2 trillion. The annual congressional appropriations for the wars — averaging $127 billion — are bigger than the global markets for soap, heroin, or gambling. And the spending is growing. Monthly spending for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan averaged $6.8 billion in 2006. That figure is now closer to $8 billion a month. Portfolio adds: At that rate of burn, General Electric's value would be wiped out in three and a half years, Bill Gates' personal fortune would evaporate in just seven months, and the troubled Ford Motor Co. would cease to exist in a matter of weeks. If you think of the wars as a giant impulse buy using an unlimited credit card, then paying it off would require coming up with enough cash to match the GDP of three Irelands or about 11 Kuwaits or the Netherlands — but only if you throw in Sri Lanka. Before the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Colin Powell warned President Bush that if you break it, you buy it. At last count, we've bought the equivalent of 10 Iraqs with your tax dollars. But instead of buying 10, the money has gone to completely destroying one country. But surely this money is going to more than just war. What about the effort to rebuild Iraq's infrastructure? Well, if you know anything about government building projects, you know there is not a record of success. Pick any Section-8 housing project anywhere in the country and you will find a long record of mismanagement, misallocation, and waste. So it is in Iraq. These reconstruction projects that war supporters have heralded have amounted to little or nothing. At the Baghdad airport, for example, your tax dollars paid for $11.8 million in new electrical generators. But $8.6 million worth of them are no longer functioning. The problems with generators in Baghdad are legendary: low oil, broken fuel lines, missing batteries, and the like. The water purification system for the city is no longer working. At the maternity hospital in Erbil, an incinerator for medical waste was padlocked and officials can't find the key. So syringes, bandages, and drug vials are clogging the sewage system and contaminating the water. Now, how did we get all this information? A federal oversight agency went to inspect a sample of eight projects that US officials in Iraq had declared to be a success. Of these eight successes, seven of them were not actually functioning at all due to plumbing and electrical failure, poor maintenance, looting, and just general neglect. Keep in mind that these are the projects that the US government declared successes! The failures must be abysmal beyond belief. So too with myriad state programs, among which is the Global War on Terror. There is no standard by which it can be considered a success. But as we know, data only get you so far. If you ask the people who the establishment considers to be experts in terrorism, they are united in one belief: we aren't spending enough money on the effort. Every agency needs more power and money, they say. The reason for the failure is a lack of resources. If we would just fork over more, all will be well. It is precisely this rationale that led socialism in Russia to last 70 years and drive the entire country into the ground. Those of us who watched this calamity from a distance were astonished that a failure could last so long. Can't the government look around and see what a disaster they have created? Can't they see that while their people were lining up blocks for a scrap of bread and dying at the age of 60, ours were shopping in massive department stores and living to 70 and 75? Why isn't it obvious what a failure socialism has been?Well, one thing is clear in the social sciences: nothing is obvious to the experts. The reason has to do with their perception of cause and effect. The supporters of socialism always believed that more money and better management would take care of the problem. Every failure was caused by something outside of the system that a perfection of the management system would correct. So it is with the war on terror. All the experts counsel more spending and power. It never occurs to them that the war itself is the problem. All problems are blamed on some other factor: sectarianism, outside interference, a demagogic new leader, poor management, or what have you. The excuses can be manufactured without end. And then there is the overwhelming factor that the war on terror can only be considered a failure from the point of view of the stated aims. It is not a failure for those who directly benefit from the increased funding and power. And it is an indisputable fact that the government has benefited massively from the war on terror. Ludwig von Mises said that the great accomplishment of economists was to draw attention to the extreme limits on the power of government. His point was not merely that government should be limited, but that it is limited by the very structure of reality. It cannot make all people rich by its own initiative. It cannot provide universal housing, literacy, and health. It cannot raise wages across the board. It cannot ban products. Those who seek to accomplish economic ends such as these are choosing the wrong means. That is because there is something more powerful than government: namely economic law. And what is economic law? It is a force that operates within the structure of all societies everywhere that governs the production and allocation of material resources and time according to strict bounds of what is possible. Some things are just not possible. It just so happens that this includes most of the demands that are made by the public and pressure groups on the government. This was the great discovery of the modern science of economics. This was not known by the ancients. It was not known by the fathers of the early church. It was the discovery of the medieval schoolmen, and the insight was gradually elaborated upon and systematized over the centuries, culminating in the classical and Austrian traditions of thought. The power of government to do what we desire is strictly limited. Those who do not understand this point do not understand economics. And the economic teaching has a broader implication that concerns the organization of society itself. Government is not free to make and unmake society as it sees fit. It is not a tool we can use to fulfill our private dreams. Society is too complicated, too far reaching, too much a reflection of the free volition of individual actors, for government to be able to accomplish its ends. Most often, what government attempts to do — whether abolish poverty, end liquor consumption, or make all citizens literate and healthy — ends up backfiring and generating the exact opposite.L.H. I think the drinking age should be 18 to match the age of adulthood.I think it is of the highest urgency to become and stay energy independent. I support nuclear power and increasing the number of nuclear power plants across America.I would push the auto makers to make electric cars available for drivers who want them.I would set and push for goals of energy independence, curing cancer, and paying down the nation debt.I oppose the endangered species act because it has failed to protect one species and has only given government control of people's land.I would raise the levels of fines on employers hiring illegal aliens.Homeland security should only be used as an anti-terror agency and criminal law enforcement should be handled by other agencies. I don't believe there is such thing as a gay marriage and think we should give them the same privileges that comes with marriage but call it something else.I think capitalism is the greatest antipoverty tool the world has ever seen and encourage the economy, not put outrageous taxes on it.I don't believe humans are warming up the Earth but I think we need to clean up some of the messes we are making such as air quality.I believe in a small federal government. No more borrowing. I believe terminally ill patients should be allowed to take experimental drugs that have yet to receive FDA approval. Lets get rid of the IRS, replace tax system with flat tax or national sales tax. The IRS and current tax code only exists to control people.I oppose taxes on broadband internet access, sales tax on in items bought online, and regulation of online content. An unknown gravitational disturbance has caused this cataclysm, and Earth is on a straight course to become swiss cheese. On the asteroids are parasitic eggs, breeding a human-feeding creature. The parasites have limited intelligence, but are led by a series of 7 super-parasites (the Hybrids), named after the 7 deadly sins(1-7 in order of weakest to strongest). (Ramses number 2, ends up joining based on a promise that he could become number 7 if he helped the main characters get off the planet.Intro:The story starts with an introduction to a character named Cross,(names may need work, but I figured it was creative) who works in a subterranean laboratory named Syndicate Labs. An alarm goes off, and Cross proceeds to an elevator. He travels to the research portion of the 182-story-deep lab, where he is approached by his Boss, General Max Awllry. Cross explains that an experiment has just gone terribly wrong. They proceed into the room ahead, fully equipped with protective gear. Inside lay the wreckage of the labs and many dead, mutilated scientists. A scene from hell, Seth, the owner of the Lab (a 16 year-old who inherited it from his father and the narrator of the story), comes and explains that an egg of a parasite that feeds on humans was found in a crater, and that it was being researched. The parasite injects enzymes which stop diffusion in the cells (basically makes the victim explode...nice right?). He also explains that the earth is in a dire situation(refer to background)They proceed to leave the labs, searching for a way off Earth, and a way to survive.Story:The 3 characters have not been to the surface in many years, and are astonished by the devastation on Earth. The skies are a mix of surreal orange, red and blue. They travel to a ruined city nearby, wherein they meet Rut, a former Black Op agent, battling multiple parasites. Rut presents them with neuro-transmitters, devices which regulate and create electric signals in your nervous system. Injected into the blood stream, these devices have numerable uses, including adrenaline flow to increase strength and speed, state-of-the-art programs which present the user with frame-by-frame predictions of attacks and projectile motions and directions, and many other powerful innovations. Cross finds weapons and proceeds to alter them, in order to give them special uses, and passes them out to each person. The 4 of them, now well equipped, head to a shore nearby, but encounter a massive battle on the way (I go into extreme detail in my battles). (Rut explained that there is a high security base in the Atlantic ocean, but that it is protected by an active camouflage. the characters go and collect things to make an EMP generator to disrupt this field.) At the waterfront, they encounter the owner of the boat shop, Earl (number 1 Hybrid), who appears to be a completely normal human. He tricks them however and mutates into his true form after cornering them at the docks. A single hole is located in his abdomen (perhaps an idea for other Hybrids...?). They engage in battle and he is soon defeated. With no boat to head to the base, and in search of rest, they head to a nearby hospital, where they encounter the only 2 girl characters, Sharon and Gemma (It would appear Rut and Sharon used to be intimate, but Cross is scouting her as well...Gemma and Seth would appear to be engrossed in each other as well). Gemma is being hunted by Ramses, (number 2), who looks like a skeletal werewolf. Ramses is prideful to boundless extents. After a decent dialog, he joins the group, and they head to the Hybrid base, which happens to be the military base Rut spoke of.The base is dodecahedral and made of gooey blue substance. Inside they are ambushed by a team of Hunters. (Elite parasites, merged with infected and enlarged wasps.) They AI like the names. what exactly are you looking for, this seems good?i know you'll hate me for saying this, but you gotta give it some time to come to you. i've been working on the same novel since 6th grade, and it's really coming along now.I could use your help with a part of it, actually-http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApuPrjcQpHXUNJEIrQKVrLqf5HNG;_ylv=3?qid=20100405145902AAb4p2lAnyhow, you have a really creative idea. if you're an artist you could try to connect different animals to the 7 sins, and then mutilate those animals to get the appearances. you could draw them. www.babynames.com has an 'advanced search' that allows you to type in words that you would like to include in your meaning. like, if you wanted a name meaning 'wolf' or 'wrath' or something, you'd just type that in to get any matches, and you could warp the names to fit.don't know if this is what you were looking for but i hope this helped!!!and hey, good luck with this story. i'd love to read it! it's just my type.~*muse
Best Answer : by Muse at 06 April 2010 01:04:12 Can't Get Daycare Thru Job and Family Or Any Help, Please Help!?Family at 29 November 2008 05:11:26 QHi guys, I need some help please. I moved with my fiance to live with him and my son from a previous relationship. I changed my JFS case to the county I'm in and since then I have had nothing but trouble. I tried to apply for cash assistance and was told I had to work 20+ hrs a wk to get any type of cash with my 2 yr old son despite not working the other 2 yrs in 2 other counties at Job and Family while he was little and about 6 months while I was in school. Someone told me to put my significant other (not married) on as my landlord and I had to fill out a landlord paper and put I pay no rent now being that I can't get cash assistance. I just got a cashier job to help pay the bills until I can find a "real job" if there's any left. I called them and they gave me an employer verification form which I gave to my HR Manager. She said she is not allowed to fill it out and gave me a card with their 1-800 Employee Verifcation Line. I gave this to Job and Family along with the daycare application and filled out the paperwork at the daycare I was going to use. I called from 7:30 in the morn. Wed. to try to establish daycare when all they needed was a paper faxed or phone verification saying I applied so that they don't charge me the $150 a wk. private rate. The daycare called me back and said they can't approve it till I have the employer verification form filled out but my hours, days, times, etc. are going to vary with the holiday season for right now and I already explained to them they need to call the 1-800 number and they said I'm "not in the system" even though I've already worked the training wk and a whole wk now. My HR Manager said I should be in the system and I told them they can call the store to talk to them as well to explain it to them. Now I have no daycare and want to quit my job as I can't live off min. wage and they will probably reduce my food stamps but I called another number for Job and Family and the lady told me they can possbily sanction me if I quit a job without just cause. Well no daycare and min. wage when I have a 4 yr degree seems to be just cause for me! And I applied for WIC and put him as my fiance and Job and Family knew about this and I don't think that is supposed to be released. Along with I applied for Medicaid and just got my insurance card and approved, didn't even use the insurance yet and they sent me a letter in the mail about being redetermined for Medical. How can I be redetermined when I just got approved?! There was also a pamplet in there about Welfare Fraud. I lived with my son's father's mother when he was in jail in one county and my mom who was an RN (and they never even questioned her income yet they do my fiance's) when I lived at home in another and never had so many problems with Job and Family. All while my son's father doesn't pay any child support and lives off his rich grandma-just got $7000 from her and $5000 for a car and might be going to jail AGAIN for selling fake items on Ebay this time. Plus my ex's family is crazy and would try to get me in trouble in anyway they can because they are jealous and he has a stalking record, etc. So I want daycare badly to cut them out of the picture for when I have a better job because of numerous reasons. We're currently living off about $1200/mo. with 3 people. Our rent is $650ish, car payment $250, electric-$40-60, plus other bills so money is super tight and I'm gonna make at my cashier job about what I made living at home not working. I don't even know where to find a real job with my degree (Bachelor of General Studies). I even applied at Job and Family up here to be a caseworker and never even got an interview. But anyways I can't seem to get any help up here and I feel like I am being toyed with. I just need some help till I can get a career and he can either get a raise or make better money somewhere and I don't know what to do. Please Help! There are very few babysitters up here approved by Job and Family and most aren't open wkends, my fiance's niece can watch him wkends but she's 13 and has school. And I don't know anyone up here because my fiance and his family so that's about all. AIf you could find an older teenager with some babysitting experience, maybe through church. Even if your not a church goer, then see if you have any friends, or friends parents who know someone who does. You could join maybe your local church too, and find one there through there babysitting service. I would pick someone 15 years or older. Preferably a girl. Anyways good luck to you.

I support the right to bear arms, concealed weapons licenses, hunting, stand your ground laws, etc. I support a 2 strikes and your out drunk driving law.I support a his body his choice law banning infant circumcision unless it is to treat a legitimate medical condition.I support the decriminalizing of marijuana because it is less harmful than alcohol. I don't think the general public should even notice the federal government unless they visit their local military recruiter or post office. No more ethanol, it causes higher grocery bills and less MPG.I support Boone's plan.I support the rights of nudists to live their lifestyle on their privately owned property without the government telling them they must put clothes on. I am a Christian but don't think it's the government's job to push morality, I think morality must come from the people up. Not the government down.I support net neutrality, and oppose bandwidth caps. I would revert our copyright laws back to that of the Webster and Benjamin Franklin years: An item can be copyrighted for 14 years, renewable once, then falls into public domain. We allow men to go out in public shirtless. I support amending the law allowing both genders to do the same. One gender shirtless is discrimination. I support women's rights to breast feed in public. That is the function of the breast. I don't think anyone has ever been harmed for seeing a breast.I think smokers should be required to pay their own way when they get cancer and heart disease. Not get public money to fight a self imposed condition.I would allow people to own their social security accounts and allow them to invest in a Roth IRA within their social security account so the people may build a nest egg to retire on. Each person will own their account and congress may never dip into it.I would make it illegal for credit card companies to raise interest rates, at will, with no delinquent activity: banning universal default.Absolutely, no more national debt. I don't believe our government is up to the task of providing national heath care and it's much better off left in the hands of the private sector. I think daylight savings time should be expanded to a year round project.I oppose the government regulating the content of literature, films, video games, etc. AI really am not sure.I read your statement several times.I agree with you half the time. The other half I don't agree. But you are a little bit too far right on some things and a little too far left on others. But you aren't quite Centrist. You do however have many that would completely agree with you.But not Republicans or Democrats. You need to make a new party.
