I am a team member for MJSUNIFC and we have contacted the L.A. Best Answer : by Christina Riechelle at 07 March 2009 03:03:31See the 6 Answers more for this question Did the President overstep his authority in this matter?Immigration at 16 November 2006 01:11:42 QMICHAEL GRACZYKAssociated PressHOUSTON - The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on Wednesday rejected an appeal from a death row prisoner whose case was among several dozen nationally involving condemned killers who were born in Mexico and whose punishments had been sidetracked after intervention from President Bush."We hold that the President has exceeded his constitutional authority by intruding into the independent powers of the judiciary," the court said in a 64-page ruling that included 283 legal footnotes.Lawyers for condemned murderer Jose Ernesto Medellin had argued his rights were violated when a Houston court tried and sentenced him to death in 1994 for the rape-slayings of two teenage girls.Specifically, Medellin, who was born in Mexico but who spent most of his life in Texas, contended he was denied legal help under international treaties when he was charged, tried, convicted and condemned for the 1993 slayings of Jennifer Ertman, 14, and Elizabeth Pena, 16, in Houston. At issue overall was how much weight U.S. courts should give to decisions of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, which ruled the convictions of Medellin and 50 other Mexican-born prisoners violated the 1963 Vienna Convention. In 1969, the Senate ratified the Vienna Convention, which requires consular access for Americans detained abroad and foreigners arrested in the United States. The Constitution states that U.S. treaties "shall be the supreme law of the land," but does not make clear who interprets them.In February 2005, Bush unexpectedly ordered new state court hearings for all 51 prisoners, whose cases have stirred tensions with foreign countries over convictions of their citizens in violation of international law.The Court of Criminal Appeals on Wednesday said the presidential order "cannot be sustained under the express or implied constitutional powers of the President relied on by Medellin and the United States or under any power granted to the President by an act of Congress cited by Medellin and the United States."As such, the President has violated the separation of powers doctrine by intruding into the domain of the judiciary."The decision Wednesday means Medellin, 31, is not entitled to additional review of his international rights claim. The Supreme Court 18 months ago, citing the presidential order, rejected Medellin's case and those of the 50 other Mexican nationals on death row in the United States and sent them to their respective state courts for review. That ruling avoided the dispute over whether international law is binding on American courts. In 2004, the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with Texas in a ruling that federal relief for Medellin was barred because he did not file objections at his trial. In their arguments to the Supreme Court, Medellin's attorneys said his court-appointed trial lawyer was suspended from practicing law for ethics violations during the case, and he failed to call any witnesses during the guilt phase of the trial. Lawyers for Mexico said the country would have made sure Medellin had a competent lawyer had it known about the trial in 1994.Medellin was supported in his appeal by dozens of countries, legal groups and human rights organizations, as well as former American diplomats and the European Union. Much of the international community is opposed to capital punishment and the execution of Mexican nationals in Texas, the nation's most active death penaltly state, is a particularly touchy point.Medellin, 18 at the time, was one of six members of a fledgling Houston street gang convicted in the slayings of Pena and Ertman, whose bodies were found four days after they failed to return from a friend's house. The pair had been tortured, raped and strangled. They were attacked as they took a shortcut along some railroad tracks and stumbled on the group drinking beer after initiating a new gang member. One of Medellin's companions, Derrick Sean O'Brien, also 18 at the time of the slayings, was executed earlier this year.Evidence showed the girls were gang raped for more than an hour, then were kicked and beaten before being strangled by a belt or shoelaces. Two others, Efrain Perez and Raul Villarreal, had their death sentences commuted to life in prison when the Supreme Court last year barred executions for those who were 17 at the time of their crimes.Peter Cantu, described by authorities as ringleader of the gang, remains on death row without an execution date. O'Brien, in a confession, said Medellin was at one end of the belt being pulled around Jennifer Ertman's neck as he yanked on the other. The sixth person convicted was Medellin's brother, Vernancio, who was 14 at the time and received a 40-year prison term.Trainerma.., KISS MY ASS. Why can't all you wiseasses just not answer the damn question if it bothers you so much. There is nothing about 'hate' in this news article. AI remember hearing about that. It's too bad they didn't execute them all a long time ago. As for Bush, I don't understand whats wrong with him. I've been asking for years why is he so bent on pleasing President Fox and the Mexican government at the expense of these two young girls and their families. Maybe he's thinking about running for president in Mexico after 2008 or maybe he's got a deal worked out with Mexico to hide him, after they go after him for war crimes. Anyway, I'm still distrustful after he tried to allow the port deal to the Saudis. Keep e'm coming girl. I don't care what they say, your making strong points.
Best Answer : by White Knight at 16 November 2006 02:11:31See the 10 Answers more for this question does this report sound good to you? ( 6th grade) also how many pages is it, i cant tell??Homework Help at 12 October 2007 01:10:24 QThomson was born in Belfast, Ireland, the fourth of seven children. His mother died when he was young. The family moved to Scotland in the early 1830s, where James accepted the mathematics chair at the University of Glasgow. It was because of his father that he learned about mathematics, including things things that had'nt even been published in textbooks. Thomson went to the University of Glasgow at the age of 10. After attending the University of Glasgow, Thomson went to Cambridge. (1841) He graduated four years later and received highest honors. His interest in French mathematical and scientific methods then inspired him to travel to Paris, where he experimented physics by working in the laboratory of Henri-Victor Regnault. In 1846 the University of Glasgow needed to fill its chair of natural philosophy, because of his father's help he was appointed, even though he was just 22 years old. He returned to Scotland and remained associated with the University of Glasgow throughout his career, eventhough he was offered other academic institutes. In 1845, Thomson studied Michael Faraday’s magnetic lines of force and wrote a letter to him in August of that year telling how his calculations predicted that magnetic fields should affect the plane of polarized light. Faraday experimented with light and magnetism many years before this, but never observed any connection between the two. Because of Thomson’s prediction, Faraday decided to look at the problem in a new way and began a new way to go about the experiment in his laboratory. In mid-September he had proven that magnetism and light are related, discovering what is known as the Faraday effect. Thomson was known for his self-confidence, and as an undergraduate at Cambridge he thought himself the sure "Senior Wrangler" (the name given to the student who scored highest on the Cambridge mathematical Tripos exam). He made many contributions to electricity, magnetism, thermodynamics, hydrodynamics, geophysics and telegraphy and other fields, publishing more than 650 papers during his lifetime. He was also known for inventing the international system of absolute temperature known as the Kelvin scale. Thomson was a very skilled engineer and patented 70 inventions and helped in the laying of the first telegraph cable. Kelvin argued that the main issue in the interpretation of the Second Law of Thermodynamics was the explanation of irreversible processes. He noted that if entropy always increased, the universe would eventually reach a state of uniform temperature and maximum entropy from which it would not be possible to extract any work. He called this the Heat Death of the Universe. He said the two laws of thermodynamics expressed the indestructibility and dissipation of energy. He also tried to demonstrate that the equipartition theorem was invalid.Thomson died on December 17, 1907. AYou have lots of good information about an interesting and apparently very intelligent man who contributed much to science.Could you tell your teacher and/or your classmates, in your own words, what was important about what this man did? What do you think was neat about him? What was it about him that impressed you? If you could talk to him, what would you like to ask him?

History of Catholicism• Military campaigns waged by Richard the Lionheart, King of England to re-capture the HolyLand from Muslim control.• The social history of Catholicism post 1500’s and how the influence of Catholicism diminished throughout Europe but expanded and thrived around the world.FOREIGN LANGUAGE SKILLS/FOREIGN TRAVEL EXPERIENCEPOLISH - Limited working proficiency. Poland – traveled there on several occasions, mostly family oriented. Moreover, I am familiar with the nation’s culture because of my travels to that country. EMPLOYMENT/WORK EXPERIENCE None.REFERENCES AThis looks more like a resume. Take off the sections for "objectives," "employment/work experience" (since you don't have any) and "references." I would reformat your education to give your expected graduation date. If you are writing a senior/honors thesis, include that information either there or in your "research experience," as this is important even though you haven't completed it yet.Shorten your descriptions. You can always elaborate more upon your research interests, travels, etc. in your statement of purpose. You might add a section for academic scholarships and awards (just include a brief list of the important ones).I'd suggest looking up some examples of CVs to get the format just right and maybe some ideas for things you could add. These days even a lot of grad students have their CVs online. You might try academia.edu and look specifically for graduate students in political science at schools you're applying to and glance over their CVs just to get a sense of the format. Maybe some professors' too. They'll have a lot of stuff you won't be expected to have (publications, conference talks, etc.), but you can translate their format into categories that are more relevant to you. They won't necessarily expect you to know the finer points of CV writing, but it will help you to keep things clear and to the point. You want them to be able to get the most important information about you in seconds, so don't make them read too much to get it.
Best Answer : by ooooo at 22 December 2010 04:12:16 Has MoveOn Betrayed the Democratic Party?Politics at 10 September 2007 10:09:40 Q.Has MoveOn Betrayed the Democratic Party? With its full-page “General Betray Us?” ad in the New York Times, MoveOn.org has once again put itself at the forefront of the antiwar movement. And if past patterns are any guide, a number of Democrats are embarrassed, and even angered, by MoveOn’s actions but are afraid to reveal the true extent of their feelings. MoveOn simply has too much fundraising clout — and a fear-inducing inclination to attack Democrats who stray from the MoveOn line — for many in the party to take it on.Democratic leaders might be further embarrassed by a new email, headlined “Your dog can help end the war,” sent out by the leadership of MoveOn’s political team. The email asks members to attend a protest on Capitol Hill this morning preceding the testimony of Gen. David Petraeus. “Congress was fooled before by the White House’s ‘dog and pony show,” the appeal says. “We need to make sure they’re not fooled again. That’s why we’re hosting our own ‘Dog and Pony Show’ outside the Capitol Building right before Petraeus takes the stage for his testimony. We want to show Congress and the cameras that the American people aren’t buying the White House spin.”“We’re bringing real ponies, signs and a big banner that reads, ‘CONGRESS: Don’t be fooled, AGAIN!’ Can you make it — and bring your dog if you have one?”It seems unlikely that many top Democrats will be bringing pets. But the thing that should trouble party leaders is not that MoveOn is capable of silly stunts. It’s not even that MoveOn is capable of making slanderous comments about U.S. military officials. And it’s not that MoveOn is against the war in Iraq, which polls show many Americans believe was a mistake. Rather, MoveOn’s latest campaign is a continuation of a drive to oppose not just the action in Iraq, but the war on terror in general, and, in a larger sense, America’s use of military power in its own defense.MoveOn was founded in 1998 by a husband-and-wife team of Berkeley, California software developers named Wes Boyd and Joan Blades. Its original mission was to oppose the Clinton impeachment. In 1999, after the impeachment trial ended with Clinton’s acquittal, MoveOn moved on to defeating Republicans who had favored impeachment. It mostly failed in that effort, and soon after the 2000 elections found itself without a clear political goal. All that changed on September 11, 2001.At a time when polls showed a huge majority of Americans favoring military action against the terrorists who attacked New York and Washington, MoveOn put its energy into opposing the war in Afghanistan. Shortly after the terrorist attacks, Boyd and Blades circulated a petition that read, “Our leaders are under tremendous pressure to act in the aftermath of the terrible events of Sept. 11th. We the undersigned support justice, not escalating violence, which would only play into the terrorists’ hands.” At the same time, an activist named Eli Pariser, recently graduated from college, circulated a petition of his own, calling on George W. Bush to use “moderation and restraint” in responding to 9/11 and “to use, wherever possible, international judicial institutions and international human rights law to bring to justice those responsible for the attacks, rather than the instruments of war, violence or destruction.” Boyd and Blades were so impressed by Pariser’s work that they hired him; he now is a top MoveOn official. In recent years, MoveOn has sought to portray itself as the voice of what Pariser often calls the true American majority. For example, in the summer of 2004 MoveOn teamed with filmmaker Michael Moore to promote Moore’s movie Fahrenheit 9/11. The week before the film premiered, Pariser asked members to sign a pledge to see it during its first weekend; the point, he explained, was not simply to show support for Moore’s picture but to create the impression in the press that Fahrenheit 9/11 was the leading edge of a wave of anti-Bush anger sweeping the country. “We launched this campaign around Fahrenheit 9/11 because to the media, the pundits, and the politicians in power, the movie’s success will be seen as a cultural referendum on the Bush administration and the Iraq war,” Pariser told MoveOn members. “Together, we have an opportunity to knock this ball out of the park.”Several leading Democrats, including then-Sen. Minority Leader Tom Daschle, showed up at the movie’s Washington premiere. But the connection with MoveOn worried other Democrats. “You’ve got to reject Michael Moore and the MoveOn crowd,” Al From, of the Democratic Leadership Council, remarked, calling MoveOn’s members “elites, people who sit in their basements all the time and play on their computers.” Other critics noticed that MoveOn attracted a membership that was mostly white, well-to-do, far-to-the-left, and not entirely representative of the Democratic party as a whole. Now, with the “General Betray Us” campaign, those Democrats again face the question: Do they dare to cross MoveOn? Not long after the 2004 elections, Pariser famously said of Democrats, “Now it’s our party. We bought it, we own it, and we’re going to take it back.” The next few days could be crucial in determining whether he was right or not. AProbably but all of the Democratic candidates are so afraid of them that they will say nothing.........
