11 Is NYC a good place to work with computers?Financial Services at 24 November 2006 09:11:27 QEveryone knows that the west coast is known for providing lots of technology-related jobs (for example, Silicon Valley / San Francisco / San Jose / etc.). I plan to have a degree in computer engineering but I would like to live in New York City, I like it a lot better than California. Is New York a good place to work this kind of job? AYes, there are plenty of high tech jobs being created all over NYS. We have a new technology park being built in Upstate right now, that AMD is looking into, as well as some of the other chip and component manufacturers. Actually, NY held the title in technology for many years with the likes of Smith-Corona, Monarch Machine Tool, National Cash Register, and many others. The NYC area also has a lot of positions available but many of them are more related to network type positions, and repairs. Keep in mind that a single BR flat in NYC will run between 1500 and 3k a month plus utilities. Upstate you can get a whole house for that and many times even less. Hope this helps

I plan on moving out west to the Silicon Valley area after I get my BS. Which degree from which school will look better for me? I see PSU is ranked at #14 for best UG eng. program and TT is not even ranked on there. But that is just overall, it does not focus on their EE/CS programs. One thing I noticed is that PSU and TT both have EE and CS for undergrads. But PSU has CE, while TT has EECS - which PSU doesnt have. What do you recommend? - Basically, tell me which B.S. would be the best out of the possible options (ex: bs in MAJOR from SCHOOL) AI agree with the above respondent "Your Best Fiend". I live in the west and have spent years in computers and EE. I've barely heard of Texas Tech and I've never met anybody who went there who works in the field. You shouldn't even have a question here. PSU is the obvious choice.

A high proportion of them are employed in the software, telecoms or biotechnology sectors. AI don't believe the French, specifically, have made us a super-power but I do believe you're on the right track. It has been our willingness to allow the citizens of this country to contribute to, and participate in, the American dream that has made this country a super-power.
Best Answer : by jackmustard1 at 14 June 2007 05:06:42See the 1 Answers more for this question If Arabs are immigrants in Palestine, what right do they have to claim Palestine?Israel at 21 September 2011 07:09:13 QAccording to the 1525/6 Ottoman census conducted 8 years after the Mamluk defeat in 1516, the population west to the Jordan valley numbered only 120,000.By the end of the 16th century, the population finally crawled to 206, 290 – and froze at this level for almost 200 years until the son of Muhammad Ali of Egypt Ibrahim Pasha between 1832 and 1840 conquered Palestine from Ottomans and Egypt settled along the shore and the valleys, about 100,000 Egyptian peasants; population immediately grew 100,000 people. That is the reason behind the spectacular population growth in Muslim population of Palestine between 1840 and 1880. In 1880, the population of Palestine reached at last 300,000 people. When Ottomans re - conquered Palestine back they continued the policy of bringing the Muslims from other parts of Empire. Circassians, Bosnians, Albanians were offered generous incentives and tax-free status if they agreed to come to Palestine. And of course, Turks - officials, teachers, engineers, public workers – also flooded there. But Turks avoided to bring Arabs and tried to push out those Arabs who lived in Palestine. And they succeeded! In 1900, by the beloved by Muslims Justin McCarthy, the Muslim population of Palestine reached 600,000. So, from hardly 300,000 Muslims to 600,000 Muslims in just 20 years. And there were practically no Arabs among them. In 1920, the League of Nations' Interim Report on the Civil Administration of Palestine stated that there were hardly 700,000 people living in Palestine of whom practically all had entered Palestine in the last 40 years:“There are now in the whole of Palestine hardly 700,000 people, a population much less than that of the province of Gallilee alone in the time of Christ. Of these 235,000 live in the larger towns, 465,000 in the smaller towns and villages. Four-fifths of the whole population are Moslems. A small proportion of these are Bedouin Arabs; the remainder, although they speak Arabic and are termed Arabs, are largely of mixed race. Some 77,000 of the population are Christians, in large majority belonging to the Orthodox Church, and speaking Arabic. The minority are members of the Latin or of the Uniate Greek Catholic Church, or--a small number--are Protestants. The Jewish element of the population numbers 76,000. Almost all have entered Palestine during the last 40 years.”So, in 1920, almost all the population of Palestine has entered Palestine during the last 40 years. And there was only a small number of ethnic Arabs between them. Palestine was the land of immigrants: Jews from all over the world and Muslims from wherever you wish – except Arabic countries. Then the situation changed; British Administration started to stimulate the Arab immigration at the same time putting obstacles on the way of the Jewish immigration to Palestine. Arab from all the neighbouring countries flooded Palestine. In the result, in just 25 years, the Muslim population of Palestine grew to 1,300,000 in 1945. The Arabic population nearly doubled in 25 years. AYou are right, and I shall just add some examples. The Sharon area lies between the Tanninim Creek in the north and the Yarkon stream in the south, and between the foot of the mountains of Samaria in the east and the Mediterranean Sea in the west. According to data published by the Mandate Government, the Arabic population in the Sharon increased more than three-fold during its time. At the beginning of the Mandate period there were about 10,000 Arabs (mostly Muslim) in the Sharon, and in 1944 there were more than 30,000. By the time the Mandate was ended, in 1947, more Arabs had moved to the Sharon. The Arab population of the south (between Jaffa and the Egyptian border) grew by more than 200% between 1917 – 1940s. La Syrie had published, on August 12, 1934, an interview with Tewfik Bey El-Hurani, Governor of the Hauran. Governor El-Hurani stated that "In the last few months from 30,000 to 36,000 Hauranese [Syrian] had entered Palestine and settled there." Between 30,000 and 36,000 in JUST FEW MONTHS of JUST ONE YEAR!The magnitude of Arab immigration to Palestine is best seen on the examples of the growth of the village population in Arab villages. in Abou Kashakh the Muslim Arab population numbered 200 in 1922, and 1,007 in 1931, an increase by 400% . In 1944 it was 2,400, a further increase of 138%. In the Faliq area, on the other hand, there were no Arabs until 1944, when 1,030 of them settled in the place. In Sheikh Mounis there were 664 residents in 1922, growing to 1,154 in 1931 and 1,930 in 1944, an increase of 67% in 13 years and 190% in 22 years. The people who lived in that time saw this and spoke clear and without the political correctness. Winston ChurchilL, said in May 22, 1939 that the Arab immigration to Palestine during the British Mandate was so large that their numbers grew in such proportion that even if all Jews immigrated to Palestine they could not reach that number.Franklin D.Roosevelt, said in May 17, 1939 that the Arab immigration to Palestine since 1921 was much greater that Jewish immigration. Arabs of course can go on telling stories about how they are “the native population of Palestine”, but they are only immigrants there.
Best Answer : by Y.K. Cherson at 21 September 2011 07:09:01See the 7 Answers more for this question Rochester Institute of Technology or Cal Poly San Luis Obispo?Higher Education (University +) at 22 April 2010 01:04:20 QI have been accepted to both of these schools but I am in a stalemate on which to choose. For Rochester, it is in a cold place 20 min from the city of Rochester, the third largest metropolitan city in New York, but from what I have seen, there is not much around the actual college, which I kind of like. They seem to be a decent school with a program where you get a year of paid experience. However, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I wouldn't mind staying close by, or an easy drive length. As well, I have heard Cal Poly SLO is a good school, one of the best for getting a masters in Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering (which I want to double major in if possible), but I am not sure if I will like that it is a small town, or that it will be relatively warm. As well, I am not sure if it is the best school to go to if it will be affected by the state budget cuts. However, they are also well known for their internships, are located near Silicon Valley, and would probably be better known by potential employers on the west coast, where I want to live after college. If you have any more information that might help or advice, please let me know. Thank you. ABoth are very good. You won't go wrong with either. CalPoly—SLO has a better reputation. RIT has a great advantage in offering both Engineering and Engineering Technology, so that the ~50% of students who fail out of Engineering can drop smoothly down to Engineering Technology without having to leave school altogether.Forget doing a "triple" Major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering. You will have your hands full surviving any one of the three.

During my college search, there were several things that made Stanford stand out from the rest: its renowned faculty, diverse student body, topnotch engineering program, expansive campus and location near my dream hometown of San Jose. I look forward to working on cutting edge research projects with motivated peers, enjoying midnight breakfast as I study for winter finals, and asking Professor Laughlin to try to explain to me the Fractional quantum Hall effect. While I could do similar things at other universities, at Stanford, I can do all of this while basking in the beauty of the California countryside, making regular trips to San Francisco, and enjoying all the amenities the campus has to offer: a linear accelerator, a giant radio dish, and plenty of fountains. I don’t know where I’ll end up after college. Maybe I’ll be recruited by a company in Silicon Valley or start my own business with the help of BASES or even become the ninth Stanford graduate to win a Nobel Prize. What I do know is that I want to do great things in my lifetime and, with Stanford in my future, I know I can achieve that goal. AThis was one way of using shorter sentences and reducing some of the modifiers. In 189 when Leland Stanford created Stanford university, he did not know that it would be a world-class university on the west coast. Nor did he know that Stanford was my ideal of an institution of higher education. During my college search, there were several things that made Stanford stand out from the rest. Its renowned faculty, a diverse student body, and a topnotch engineering program were an excellent choice for my selection. Its expansive campus and its location also were near my hometown of San Jose. Furthermore, I look forward to working on cutting edge research projects with motivated peers. I will enjoy the midnight breakfast as I study for winter finals. I shall look forward to asking Professor Laughlin to try to explain the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect. While I could do similar things at other universities, at Stanford, I can do all of this and enjoy the beauty of the California countryside, make regular trips to San Francisco, and enjoying all the amenities the campus has to offer: a linear accelerator, a giant radio dish, and plenty of fountains. I don’t know where I’ll end up after college. Perhaps I’ll be recruited by a company in Silicon Valley or I'll start my own business with the help of BASES. Dien bien had its strategic significance , only 11 km from Laotian border, 700 m above sea level , covering an area of around 200 km square and its been believed that it was a place where china, laos and Burma had been transporting weapons and other military equipment. The main reason why they both fought at Dien Bien Phu was that it was located on a narrow valley, and was bordered with Laos , which was a short distance from the French’s supply lines, based around HanoiIn. There was air- ground base protection, to prevent Viet Minh from intruding. More importantly, the Valley near Dien Bien Phu had large rice production which improved the supplements of food for Viet Minh , not only this but also produced large stocks of opium, which the Viet Minh sold to exchange for weapons and ammunition; moreover it had very high economic value.. Between 20 and 22 November 1953, the French sent six paratroops battalions to take Dien Bien Phu. During 1954, Viet minh and the French had been fighting each other for seven years. They figured if we occupy Dien Bien Phu we can then reduce the infiltration china posses and control what comes and goes out of Dien Bien Phu. The French figured interdicting the Viet minh‘s supplements, then their strength will debilitate. In World War II japan made airstrip. The French had been fighting in indo-china in order to control Vietnam and It required a lot of assistance from the west, inclusion of American financial aid. In spite of American financial aid, the French became more inclined to surrender their position due to constant guerrilla warfare. By now the French’s defeat in Indochina was inevitable. Successfully, they managed to win the battle, losing 40 French soldiers . as the battle continued in other areas, the French increased the number of men in Dien Bien Phu to 10 000 adding 5000 in reserve. The French had increased the intensity of the battle to inflict more damage on the Viet Minh. There were many mistakes that the French could never have foreseen; one was 20,000 strong assembled forces which later defeated the French forces. Navarre , the French commander believed that their aeroplanes and sophisticated tanks and artillery would destroy the Viet minh forces; Knowing that he had superior weapons and military intelligence, he used the French forces as bait for the Viet Minh; moreover, he encouraged the Viet Minh to attack his troops. Viet Minh commander began to increase the number of men. March 13 1954, there was a huge artillery barrage launched by Giap, during this time, Viet Minh troops pushed ahead and attacked other French fire bases. There were constant distribution of artilleries at French‘s bases, and that compelled them to use their basic weapons such as their rifle gun and grenades and instead of utilising planes and their superior artillery. They felt compelled to use rifle because their aeroplane and artillery could not locate camouflaged guns. The rebels used hit and run manoeuvre, which led the French into confusion. The Viet Minh guns were firing constantly, because they attempted to destroy the airstrip, in order to interdict the reinforcement and supplement. Navarre, the French commander deployed troops into Dien Bien Phu , Giap perceived that this was the place to stand. On other hand, their presence around the mountains, gave the Viet Minh forces to exploit the opportunity of installing their cannon and an entrance for food and equipment. Giap waited for enough strength to defeat the French. He collected forces and munitions, which were able to carry out decisive attack. Viet Minh had 50,000, including 33 infantry battalions, 6 artillery regiments and 1 regiment of engineers. 20,000 working on supply trails leading to the valley. French: 13,000, half of whom were inexperienced in combat . Despite the deteriorating situation French paratroopers still volunteered to jump into Dien Bien Phu to assist with its defence. "All around our positions, the enemy had created a network of camouflaged paths which permitted the (unhindered) transport of ammunition ... to the vicinity of the batteries. We knew that a large number of artillery and antiaircraft gun emplacements had been prepared, but their camouflage had been so perfect that only a small number of them had been located prior to the beginning of the attack ... This way of using the artillery and AA guns was possible only with the "human ant hill" at the disposal of the Vietminh and was to make shambles of all the estimates of our own artillerymen. It was the major surprise of the battle. On 7 May 1954, Giap carried the final assault on the remnants of French troops at Dien Bien Phu. Around 5.30 pm, Navarre requested ceasefire and was seeking to reconcile with the Viet Minh in order to stop the war. Despite the fact that Viet Minh had won AFUCK. YOU.
Best Answer : by Jumbo Patties at 05 August 2009 08:08:34 Should we be concerned about this?Other - Politics & Government at 22 April 2008 02:04:44 QFood Rationing Confronts Breadbasket of the WorldBY JOSH GERSTEIN - Staff Reporter of the SunApril 21, 2008http://www2.nysun.com/pf.php?id=74994&v=0173188021MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Many parts of America, long considered the breadbasket of the world, are now confronting a once unthinkable phenomenon: food rationing. Major retailers in New York, in areas of New England, and on the West Coast are limiting purchases of flour, rice, and cooking oil as demand outstrips supply. There are also anecdotal reports that some consumers are hoarding grain stocks. At a Costco Warehouse in Mountain View, Calif., yesterday, shoppers grew frustrated and occasionally uttered expletives as they searched in vain for the large sacks of rice they usually buy."Where's the rice?" an engineer from Palo Alto, Calif., Yajun Liu, said. "You should be able to buy something like rice. This is ridiculous."The bustling store in the heart of Silicon Valley usually sells four or five varieties of rice to a clientele largely of Asian immigrants, but only about half a pallet of Indian-grown Basmati rice was left in stock. A 20-pound bag was selling for $15.99."You can't eat this every day. It's too heavy," a health care executive from Palo Alto, Sharad Patel, grumbled as his son loaded two sacks of the Basmati into a shopping cart. "We only need one bag but I'm getting two in case a neighbor or a friend needs it," the elder man said. The Patels seemed headed for disappointment, as most Costco members were being allowed to buy only one bag. Moments earlier, a clerk dropped two sacks back on the stack after taking them from another customer who tried to exceed the one-bag cap."Due to the limited availability of rice, we are limiting rice purchases based on your prior purchasing history," a sign above the dwindling supply said.Shoppers said the limits had been in place for a few days, and that rice supplies had been spotty for a few weeks. A store manager referred questions to officials at Costco headquarters near Seattle, who did not return calls or e-mail messages yesterday. An employee at the Costco store in Queens said there were no restrictions on rice buying, but limits were being imposed on purchases of oil and flour. Internet postings attributed some of the shortage at the retail level to bakery owners who flocked to warehouse stores when the price of flour from commercial suppliers doubled. The curbs and shortages are being tracked with concern by survivalists who view the phenomenon as a harbinger of more serious trouble to come."It's sporadic. It's not every store, but it's becoming more commonplace," the editor of SurvivalBlog.com, James Rawles, said. "The number of reports I've been getting from readers who have seen signs posted with limits has increased almost exponentially, I'd say in the last three to five weeks."Spiking food prices have led to riots in recent weeks in Haiti, Indonesia, and several African nations. India recently banned export of all but the highest quality rice, and Vietnam blocked the signing of a new contract for foreign rice sales."I'm surprised the Bush administration hasn't slapped export controls on wheat," Mr. Rawles said. "The Asian countries are here buying every kind of wheat." Mr. Rawles said it is hard to know how much of the shortages are due to lagging supply and how much is caused by consumers hedging against future price hikes or a total lack of product."There have been so many stories about worldwide shortages that it encourages people to stock up. What most people don't realize is that supply chains have changed, so inventories are very short," Mr. Rawles, a former Army intelligence officer, said. "Even if people increased their purchasing by 20%, all the store shelves would be wiped out."At the moment, large chain retailers seem more prone to shortages and limits than do smaller chains and mom-and-pop stores, perhaps because store managers at the larger companies have less discretion to increase prices locally. Mr. Rawles said the spot shortages seemed to be most frequent in the Northeast and all the way along the West Coast. He said he had heard reports of buying limits at Sam's Club warehouses, which are owned by Wal-Mart Stores, but a spokesman for the company, Kory Lundberg, said he was not aware of any shortages or limits. An anonymous high-tech professional writing on an investment Web site, Seeking Alpha, said he recently bought 10 50-pound bags of rice at Costco. "I am concerned that when the news of rice shortage spreads, there will be panic buying and the shelves will be empty in no time. I do not intend to cause a panic, and I am not speculating on rice to make profit. I am just hoarding some for my own consumption," he wrote. For now, rice is available at Asian markets in California, though consumers have fewer choices when buying the largest bags. "At our neighborhood store, it's very expensive, more than $30" for a 25-pound bag, a housewife from Mountain View, Theresa Esquerra, said. "I'm not going to pay $30. Maybe we'll just eat bread." AThe answer is 'HELL YES!' There were, are and will be people starving all over the world the difference right now is that here in the good 'ol US of A we have farmers growing corn not for food but to be made into fuel for cars..... Human beings sacrificed on the alter of greed so that yuppie socker moms can put cheap gas in minivans and multi-national corporations can make millions! Sometimes we might wish that gasoline were died blood red and the sounds of whimpering children starving to death were played as the gas pumped just to put things in perspective for the folks at home. As for food rationing here, well you better stock up!
