20 Computer Science?Higher Education (University +) at 02 October 2007 09:10:08 QI am in my second year of college and I want to major in computer science. The thing is I keep on reading about how I won't be able to get a job because of the people overseas. My dad however says that it shouldn't be a problem and computer science majors are in shortage. I really want to go for computer science, but is it true that it will be tough to get a job when I graduate because of all the people overseas? AComputer Science is one of the most in demand degrees. The field is growing. I dont know where these people get it from that you wont be able to find a job in the US. everything i hear and read says just the opposite. Also, if you have a strong math background along with it thats a huge plus.
Best Answer : by at 03 October 2007 03:10:36See the 1 Answers more for this question computer science?Higher Education (University +) at 04 June 2008 09:06:26 Qif i get a masters in criminal justice then i can get in like the FBI etc. If i get a masters in Information technology then i will be stuck on the technical aspect of computers. If I get masters in business information sciences, then i will be stuck on the business aspect of computers. If i get a masters in computer science, then i am stuck on the theoretical basis of computers; programming, engineering etc.I believe that if i get a masters in computer science, then it will take care of every other degree in the computer related field. Well news flash!! it don't. With computer science being the core formal subject it is the most demanding, but special skills are prevelent in each degree plan especially in the masters and doctoral programs. I really need to be sure what special skills i need to acquire. But Seriously what do i want to do???????????????? I am at a very critical time in my life right now. I don't have the time nor the expenses to just go in blind. AYou always have the option of double (or triple majoring). I guess my suggestion is to check which type of thing you'd like to do. Job shadow, research, ask to interview someone in the field to learn more about them - they are different. Perhaps there is a position here you've overlooked that can use all of them.So you have here:- Criminal Justice (Law)- Information Technology (IT Help)- Business Information Sciences (Business)- Computer Science (Programming)As for a masters, you are right, they are very specialized forms of study. You would find out right away if you don't enjoy your courses that it's not right for you (or you love it.) Does one of these really stand out to you? They all are going to be in high demand in the future - since computers (and criminals) are going to stay. Perhaps working for the government on computers/it would be an option for you, so you'd get a little bit of the FBI/computers into it!
Best Answer : by Kates at 04 June 2008 09:06:13See the 1 Answers more for this question Computer science?Technology at 03 March 2008 10:03:02 QI'm a junior in high school and thinking about what I might want to study in college. I'm wondering about computer science because I really like working with computers...for example I love designing and coding websites and I taught myself html and how to use wordpress.some questions:what kind of things do you learn? what careers are available with a major in cs?whats the pay like?and is it strange to see a girl going for computer science? thanks! AGenerally CS has very little to do with web-design -- but the specifics are vary depending on the specific program.>> What kind of things do you learn?Usually you start off with an introductory programming language such as Java or Python (first semester CS 101). The first "meaty" class you'll probably encounter is Data Structures and Algorithms but different programs may break this up into two classes "Algorithms" and "Data Structures aka Machine Structures". Other theoretical CS classes are Automata Theory, and Artificial Intelligence. Most programs will also have a healthy dose of applied / practical courses such as Database Programming (SQL), Software Engineering, and several specific programming languages.>> What careers are available. Many, it of course depends on where you want to go. The most common is Software Engineering, which means you write code. You can of course go into other technical areas such as Network Engineering or System Administration. You can also go into a more business orientated role such as Sales Engineer or Product Manager.>> What's the pay like? That usually depends on YOU and not what you studied. Technical / IT / Engineering jobs typically pay more than all liberal arts degrees and are competitive with other engineering degrees (chem, electric...etc). However it will vary depending on your region and the job market when you graduate.>> Women in CS/EngineeringDef. the minority but becoming more and more common. There are a few programs that try to encourage women in engineering roles. See the Anita Borg institute for Women in Technology which has Moira Gunn as a board member.http://anitaborg.org/about/who-we-are/moira-gunn

I'm really interested in that. Its called computer enterprising. .But I want to apply to more but I get confused as every university calls the computer courses a different name. So i'm unsure if its software , or computer science , IT , IS with business. I think it could be IS with business what I'm interested in but I'm unsure. In some of the modules in the enterprise one has : information systems, computer programming ,data management , software testing , human computer interaction. developing internet applications supporting the systems kinda thingWhich computer course would include that sort of things? Its one of the practical and technical I want I'm not interested in designing. And can anyone tell me from this which computer courses is more like the one i described is it Information technology with business or something else? And is Computer science based on designing the applications? and not the more practical AInformation Technology is a practical Engineering discipline, concerned with implementing solutions to practical problems using current-day technology.Computer Science” is the mixture and application of “Applied Mathematics”, “Electrical Engineering”, and “Complexity Theory/Algorithms” to understand and/or model information. In other words, the “field of computation”.http://www.kualitatem.com/ is a software testing company, you can hire there services as well.

Which has more job opportunities and better pay? Which one will help me gain more skills in computers? AComputer science is by far the better choice. You'll learn a lot about programming, computer architecture, and even a little bit about hardware. With such a degree you could work for a software or hardware giant designing new computers and applications. Information systems deals mostly with installing and maintaining business networks (i.e., being a IT service tech).
Best Answer : by hallmanjj at 03 September 2009 04:09:07See the 1 Answers more for this question What is mathematics and computer science?Other - Science at 30 July 2007 07:07:47 QHi,Mathematics and computer science are not natural sciences, applied sciences (technology) or social sciences. So, what kind of sciences are they?I found out that they may belong to constructive sciences or formal science but I am not sure.PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER WITH LINKS.Thanks. AMathematics, which is sometimes classified within a third group of science called formal science, has both similarities and differences with the natural and social sciences.[2] It is similar to empirical sciences in that it involves an objective, careful and systematic study of an area of knowledge; it is different because of its method of verifying its knowledge, using a priori rather than empirical methods.[4] Formal science, which also includes statistics and logic, is vital to the empirical sciences. Major advances in formal science have often led to major advances in the physical and biological sciences. The formal sciences are essential in the formation of hypotheses, theories, and laws,[5] both in discovering and describing how things work (natural sciences) and how people think and act (social sciences).Cognitive science is a rapidly evolving field that deals with complex cognitive processes, intelligent systems, and the emergent behavior of large-scale real-world computational systems. It is an interdisciplinary study. It draws from converging evidence and methodology of diverse fields, including psychology, physics, neuroscience, philosophy, information science, COMPUTER SCIENCE, anthropology and linguistics. The term cognitive science was coined by Christopher Longuet-Higgins in his 1973 commentary on the Lighthill report, which concerned the then-current state of Artificial Intelligence research. In the same decade, the journal Cognitive Science and the Cognitive Science Society began.good enough..?

He knew like any good engineer" so does that mean you cna be a software engineer with a computer science degree, or do you need exactly a software engineering degree?ALSO, does that mean to eb a computer programmer you need a degree that exactly states "computer programming" or is computer science enough for that? What is exactly the job of software engeineers and programmers? AComputer science and software engineering are very similar. Software engineering will focus more on practical aspects rather than theory, but the skills you learn are very similar. A "computer programming" degree would just be an associate's or 1-year diploma program. It doesn't take 4 years to learn how to program. Lots of people teach it to themselves in their spare time.A software engineer actually designs a program, a programmer would write the code to implement the engineer's design.

AComputer engineering uses programming and logic theory to focus on digital hardware design, networking, programming chips, etc. In other words you combine programming and hardware.Computer science is focused towards the software side, so if you want to be a game developer you should stick to this degree. They are both in high demand with similar salary ranges. Best Answer : by Sergio__ at 26 February 2012 08:02:58See the 2 Answers more for this question What is the difference between computer science and computer programming ?Higher Education (University +) at 03 August 2010 03:08:27 QI want to get a degree to learn how to program computers. But do I have to get a degree in computer science or should I get another degree ? And if I get a degree in computer science will I learn programming ? AIf you get a degree in computer science, you will learn programming. Depending on the requirements for your degree and your interests, you may also learn analysis of algorithms, database analysis and design, data structures, designing graphical user interfaces, network technologies, basic computer hardware, how magnetic and optical media are used to store data, data communications, how compilers work, how operating systems work, computer architecture, computer security, artificial intelligence, software engineering, etc. I suggest looking at the curricula for a bachelor's in computer science at the colleges you might like to attend, then read the course descriptions. Some course descriptions may make no sense at this point, but they will later.

AMy school offers computer science, computer engineering, AND software engineering.I'm not an expert on the differences between comp. sci. and software. eng., however I know that computer engineering focuses more on the hardware side. However, my school also offers a dual degree program in computer engineering and computer science. Something like that is definitely worth looking into. Otherwise if you just want to develop software (and there is no software engineering option) then computer science is your best bet.
