20 Political Science-International Relations?Other - Politics & Government at 07 April 2008 07:04:29 QI'm taking Political Science 203: International Relations right now and it's projected as a really hard class. What sorts of events or topics (but ESPECIALLY events!) should I know about in order to be able to participate in discussion? It's only a 500 point class, and 3/4 of those points are dependant upon participation in discussion and essay exams! Many people in my class are able to draw from recent events in history and I'd really like to be able to stand out from the people who don't.Any help would be AMAZING!Thanks AFirst ant foremost all I can say is be ready to read. If you really wish to do well in the class read everything the professor provides and more. You should began to search current events magazine and news papers. A few good ones to consider are Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor. In addition, your university most likely has some sort database system, if I were you I would try to find some current articles. Some current events you may consider are, the worlds response to the Olympic games in China, Vladimir Putin and Russia, North Korea, Iran, political elections in Zimbabwe, and Cuba just to name a few. This class should be really fun just don't be afraid of answering a question wrong, the professor is not going to count you it against for a wrong answer as long as you participate.
Best Answer : by Hugeboy at 07 April 2008 07:04:34 International relations, political science, law, history, business?Other - Politics & Government at 31 August 2009 01:08:45 QHELP?I'm a senior in high school and i'm going to a 4 year university next year and i REALLY need help trying to figure out what to major in and what i want to do in life. Those are all the fields that interest me. could anyone tell me a little about them and what career options do i have?THANK YOU!!!!no dumb answers guys, please. AI was in the same boat a couple years ago.Forget international relations and political science. They don't exist. Those classes will be the most boring, frustrating and infuriating hours you've ever spent in a classroom. They attempt to apply academic theories to history, except it never works. Ever. International relations can only honestly be seen as history. You can study everything that's ever happened and try to draw conclusions from that. But attempting to predict the future based on something some dead guy wrote 400 years ago is futile.Do you talk a lot in class? If you do, law might be a good fit for you. The people who tend to study and excel in law are the people who truly care about their studies and go above and beyond what's required. Because it's not like you can just cover a chapter and then you're done. You have to read case after case after case until you truly understand it and retain it. If you're the type of person who rolls their eyes every time someone puts up their hand, you'll probably drop law pretty quickly.Business is a very big idea. There's no such thing as just "business" in general. The basic principles behind it are important, but it leads in a million different directions. People who excel in business, both at school and in life, tend to be very motivated and driven. They compete and they challenge each other. They're different from the law crowd. The law people learn as much as they can. The business people only care about winning.History is perfect for people who are undecided. You learn truly interesting things with clear relations to the world today. You get to read and write and speak and express yourself. You'll meet interesting people and you'll discover things you never knew existed. And in four years, you'll have an absolutely useless degree unless you want to go back to grad school, in which case you'll have an absolutely useless degree in six years.

No Best Answer for this question yet.See the 1 unchosen Answers International Affairs with Political Science or History?Higher Education (University +) at 17 November 2009 06:11:31 QHi. I'm majoring in International Affairs with a second major in Political Science. My minors are History and Religion. After college I'm planning to go to Grad School in International Relations or Political Science and work for the government or an international corporation. However, I feel like IR and Poli-Sci are essentially and same thing and I'm taking the same major twice. I want to focus not only on political issues but philosophical/social/cultural issues, so I'm thinking of switching my second major over to History. Is this wise in terms of career prospects? Will it even matter since I'm not planning to go to grad school in History. Or does it make a lot more sense to self-educate (like I've already done) in History? Also I notice that the two majors have different effects on my mood. Political Science makes me feel critical, analytical, and basically logical whereas History makes me feel artsy and social. Both are aspects I would obviously want to feel. I like them both enough that I wouldn't feel bad in either major. I'm a history buff and I'm into current events and politics, just I don't care about some aspects of history or the inner workings of government agencies so it evens out. Thanks. AWow! These are all so fuzzy and non-career enhancing. You really need to consider a useful minor such as economics or languages - or both, and quit screwing around with shallow cocktail-party education.

Best Answer : by V.T.V.RAM at 20 June 2008 04:06:44 Good combination with a history major?Homework Help at 18 June 2010 02:06:00 QI can't decide what choice is right for me. Not sure whether to go with a minor in international relations, political science or double majoring. I like all three choices but can't decide, any suggestions? No Best Answer for this question yet. What year-long programs taught in English are available in Istanbul?Turkey at 22 December 2010 05:12:21 QThe program should be open to college graduates (i.e. not study abroad), and be in a field that would teach me about the history and/or culture of Turkey, the Middle East and/or the Muslim world. History, sociology, political science, international relations would all work. AHi Terence,Bogazici University, Bilgi University and Sabanci University are known to hold programs as such, but requirements and time-period varies. Some of these programs would be offered only for students already enrolled, and during the summer semester for instance, while some are open to any and everyone interested (Bilgi is famous for the latter). I suggest checking their web-sites for information: http://www.boun.edu.tr/index_eng.htmlhttp://www.bilgi.edu.tr/http://www.sabanciuniv.edu/Alternately, you might consider 'auditing' courses or seminars in these and other universities if unable to find an entire program. So visit the web pages of the departments of relevance and check the course offerings-- you might find an interesting class or a professor to contact. Note that you may or may not be asked to pay per credit for the class(es) you would audit. Hope this helps.
