ASome states allow licensing to anyone who passes both FE and PE exams AND can document solid experience. This is a bad idea.If you think anyone who passes the Engineering exams should be able to get a PE license, you should also think that anyone who passes state exams for physicians should be recognized an a licensed surgeon. There's a lot taught in the Bachelor's Engineering degree school that can't be tested in an exam, and isn't taught in Master's degrees. That's why only graduates of ABET accredited programs in Engineering are allowed to take the PE exam in most states.

AA lot of people become disillusioned after finding out a lot of what their taught is bullshit. However, there is still a lot of truth in it and they choose to keep the beneficial parts with them.

AThere are several engineers involved. Electrical, mechanical. There are astronomers, physicists. Even computer programmers. Telecommunication engineers. But according to your demand "study planets and orbital objects" You need to be an astronomer. A hard field. And not everyone succeeds.

AAs one with an accounting degree who passed the CPA exam, WHY? Why an electrical degree to go into accounting? FYI the CPA exam will be very difficult to pass without taking accounting classes. Most people also take review and refresher courses to bone up for the exam. My book of questions was 3 inches thick. The Answer book was another 3 inches thick. Then I had to buy a third book to pass the last portion of the exam; so good luck, if this is really your goal.You don't need to be a CPA to understand writing estimates and bidding on jobs, you know.

So your major will still be electrical, but you will specialize in which types of circuits that you want to deal with. A first course on transistors will make things clearer. Transistors are the basic building blocks of electronic circuits, and electronic circuits fall into 2 categories: analog and digital. About 95% of electronic circuits nowadays are digital. A transistor is a device that does one of 2 things: it can be used as an amplifier or a switch. If it is used as an amplifier, it is usually performing an analog function. If it is used as a switch, it is performing a digital function. Transistors are hooked up with each other to perform complex tasks, and the more transistors, the more complicated the device, and the more things it can do. Your alarm clock, for example, has dozens of transistors in it acting as switches, while your computer has billions of transistors in it switching off and on to do all the things that a computer does.All engineers use computers a lot. A computer engineer is more focused on designing computers and focuses more on actual programming to control how the chips in the computer function. An electronics engineer focuses more on learning how to use pre-written software to help them design simpler electronic circuits.So your major will still be electrical, no need for a minor. You just need to decide which types of electronic circuits to specialize in.

AHow much problem solving do you actually do? A lot. Sometimes I've done 100 hours a week, for several weeks at a stretch. Going to bed thinking about a problem and waking up next morning still thinking about it. I once spent about 10 years, on and off, figuring out why something consistently didn't work properly for a few of the customers who used it, while the majority had not problems at all. (And after 10 years to find the solution, the modification to fixing it took about half an hour to make). "Fixing up faulty machinery" is mostly about solving problems, not attacking it with hand tools, and there are usually technicians around who are much better qualified to do the hand-tool work than you would be after a university engineering course.The huge difference between university and real work is that what you do at work has real consequences, it's not just a mind-game where the "right answers" are known already before you get to do the coursework. For example it''s one thing to learn about strength of materials, or vibration and resonance, in theory. It's quite another thing when a the prototype of the device you have been working is finally built, and the first time they fire it up there is an loud bang and a $50,000 pile of broken bits of scrap metal.
