AI'm guessing you wont be able to start in F1. It is after all the Highest class of racing/research&development that exists in the automotive world. I'd be forced to think that you would need a decade or more in the racing world before even being considered for such a position. Maybe try Nascar, I know it sucks, but it is alot more plausible as a first step than F1.

ANo you wouldn't "need" do computer engineering, that is the major that prepares you more for hardware but with much software as well(well, depends on the program, each one has more or less of each).... unless you find an actual software engineering program just stick with CS and you can be a software "engineer"(I assume that's what you were talking about when you wrote Software development/engineer). You might be wondering how you can be a software engineer and not have an engineering degree.....the reason is because software engineer is kind of a loose title, some people think the activity is engineering others don't....the name doesn't imply certified engineer in the sense of being an actual "engineer", the kind that sit for a profession engineer exam.....it's meant(perhaps inappropriately) to apply to the nature of the activity itself and not the one doing it mainly......and this is where the confusion arises. If you did Computer Engineering, you could be an actual real engineer legally and you can still go get a job with the title of software engineer.....CS & CE are very close curriculum wise......to me if you are going to choose either, might as well go full bore and choose CE so you can do hardware at times if desired but thats just me.

APay, benefits, daily work clothes, following orders, etc. One is a contracted civilian that can loose his job at anytime, and the other is a military member.

AWell, one thing to consider is the retirement benefits that the Air Force has to offer. The sooner you join, the sooner you can retire, so I'd go ahead and try to get in asap. The AF is especially good if you have dependents to worry about, health care wise and what not.

Adon't you have to take a test first, and score extremely high on it?

AIf you have a degree definitely anywhere from $13- maybe $16 depending where you go.
