I need advice!?Higher Education (University +) at 17 April 2009 08:04:24 Qim currently in my first year at college studying Critical Thinking, Sociology and Psychology. However, im not doing brilliant.Im expecting to get an 2 E's at A level. There is a course at winchester university which only needs 80 ucas points. This course is journalism, i love writing, so it seems ok. Its a 2 year diploma course with the option of the 3rd year for the full degree. However im worried that with me only likely to get 80 points, students with better grades will take the places instead. Also, i havent got a GCSE (or equivalent) in ICT. Will this be a setback? I can however work a computor as capably as anyone i know and working on one is not an issue. Just havent got the grade to prove it.Winchester is the only university near me that offers such a course so im kind of putting all my eggs in one basket if you like.Does anyone know if my chances are limited?BTW i got 9 GCSE's so im not dumb. just picked the wrong A levels i guess. thanks for any help. AThe course at Winchester does sound like a good fit for your interests. I think you should try for it, and see if you get in. To get a better idea for your chances, you may want to contact the university directly. It's not an unusual question, so feel free to ask it. Some other courses that you may like, and you may want to check to see if Winchester or another uni near you offers them, and if 80 UCAS points is enough, would be English and Writing. So for example, if 80 UCAS points will qualify you to apply to journalism at Winchester, and 80 will also qualify you for English there, you can apply to both, see which you get into. Looking at a more broadly available course like English may also widen your potential choice of universities. Also, is it possible for you to move further from home? Many unis offer housing, and if you feel you can be a bit more flexible re: location, that widens your options.

Ato be honest i think students who have more than 80 ucas points will not apply to a course that only needs 80 points as they will set there standards higher.as long as you get the points needed and write a good personal statement you should get in .

Best Answer : by DrIG at 27 April 2008 01:04:00 What can I do to improve my life?Mental Health at 16 May 2007 04:05:25 QI went to a private boarding school, and have never been particulary clever. I did okay in my A levels and got into Winchester University which is not well known. The problem is I am being persecuted because of the background I'm from, people making jibes at me because they think I'm posh, so much so that I don't leave my room often and miss lectures. I know I have got to leave the place as I can't put up with it any longer and am miserable but don't want to be a failure in life. I have to start my life again elsewhere. Could someone give me advise or encouragement? Thank you. AWays to improve your current situation: - go to lectures, you won't learn if you aren't there. - people talk trash about everyone, don't take it to heart. Make a jab or two at yourself in front of them if you feel the need to connect with them (will show that you aknowledge their attempts to connect with you, and it will just become a joke once they get to know you for who you are)- change your adititude. You don't have to leave your University because their are jerks there, you have as much a right to be there as they do. You CAN go elsewhere, you don't HAVE to. I assume you live on campus, moving off campus will give you your own space. - you won't be a failure if you try something new somewhere else. They way you've said all this, you do sound like you expected something more prestigious of yourself. Parents still have a heavy influence on you, I think. Getting out from under that pressure and taking control of your life is the best thing you can do for yourself. Do what YOU WANT for YOU and YOU alone.Good luck on it.

I'm a senior in high school, and it's time that I decide where I want to go for college. I know a lot of people roam this site, so I'm trying to get opinions on schools. I want to major in psychology, and I preferably want to be a trauma psychologist. First off, I'm not certain how to come to be that, since I can't seem to find info on that. So if you can find me something on that, that would be really, really helpful.Anyway, back to the school thing. I'll list a few schools, and if you know someone who goes there or went there yourself, please give me a little information about it. All college sites have good points, so they don't help me. My list may be a little long; but it's not like you have to give me information on every single one.In searching for the following:+Four Year College+Located in Virginia or Georgia+Small to Medium Sized+Coed School+With, of course, the major I wantSo here are the schools that the search gave me:-Albany State University; Albany, Georgia -Armstrong Atlantic State University; Savannah, Georgia -Augusta State University; Augusta, Georgia-Christopher Newport University; Newport News, Virginia -Clark Atlanta University; Atlanta, Georgia -Clayton State University; Morrow, Georgia -Columbus State University; Columbus, Georgia-Emory University; Atlanta, Georgia -Fort Valley State University; Fort Valley, Georgia -Georgia College and State University; Milledgeville, Georgia -Hampton University; Hampton, Virginia-Longwood University; Farmville, Virginia -Macon State College; Macon, Georgia -Marymount University; Arlington, Virginia -Mercer University; Macon, Georgia -Middle Georgia College; Cochran, Georgia -Morris Brown College; Atlanta, Georgia -Norfolk State University; Norfolk, Virginia-North Georgia College and State University; Dahlonega, Georgia -Radford University; Radford, Virginia -Savannah State University; Savannah, Georgia -Shenandoah University; Winchester, Virginia-The College of William & Mary; Williamsburg, Virginia -University of Mary Washington; Fredericksburg, Virginia -University of Richmond; Richmond, Virginia -University of West Georgia; Carrollton, Georgia -Valdosta State University; Valdosta, Georgia -Virginia State University; Petersburg, VirginiaIn ABC order, not according to state.Any information would be helpful! Thanks in advance,Rikku ARikku, The best method to find out info is to find a student. Best Answer : by Arnoldo U at 03 November 2008 12:11:56See the 2 Answers more for this question estimate cost of study for an 18year old american in england?Studying Abroad at 04 March 2009 02:03:51 Qhow much would it cost for an 18year old american to study in a uk university?? including dorm and food... universities such as winchester uni, leeds trinity and all saints? can u give me an estimate? AIt depends entirely on the school. I'm a 20 year old American at school in the UK right now, and it costs me roughly $20,000 a year, all things included. Considering that public universities in my home state of California cost just as much, if not more, I think it's a pretty good deal. Again, though, it depends entirely on the school. I'm at the University of East Anglia, which is in Norwich. Before I decided to come here, I was able to access all the financial information I needed via the school's website. If you're interested in specific universities, I'd just google them to find their website, and check out any financial pages. Just make sure that when you're checking tuition prices that you're looking at what they charge for internationals. If they're similar to my uni, you'll find that they tend to be nearly twice as expensive for internationals as for UK citizens / other members of the European Union. That sounds pretty expensive, but again, for me, that ended up costing just as much, if not a bit less, than going to school in California.Hope that helps!
Best Answer : by Ryn K at 04 March 2009 02:03:40See the 1 Answers more for this question UCAS firm and insurance choices?Higher Education (University +) at 26 March 2011 10:03:36 QI've recieved conditional offers from Manchester Metropolitan University and Winchester University. They both offered me 300 UCAS points but only Winchester takes my AS grade which I recieved last year into account when calculating the whole 300 points. This means that I would only need A,C,C grades to get into Winchester along with my AS grade which I got last year. But in Manchester I would need to get A, B, C this year. My question is can I firm Manchester and have Winchester as an insurance even though they've given me the same offer of 300 points? Because technically I need lower grades this year for Winchester.toscamo - I did contact the admissions and they said they do not accept AS grades. They really should since it's actually half of an actual A Level and as you said it's part of the UCAS tariff, but yeah if I can firm and insurance any offers then I will have Winchester as a back up :) x ATotally. You can do whatever you wish when choosing your firm and insurance, you can even have your firm be of a lower entry requirement. You are only restricted if you have unconditional offers, in that instance you can only have a firm.

ATo be honest? If you are doing the wrong courses for A levels, then cut your losses. Start college again in September with some more appropriate courses - English, for a start, if what you love is writing. Because yes, you have a problem. The vast majority of people will have more UCAS points than you, and if the course is oversubscribed you will miss out. Plus if you are only expected to get 2 Es, you don't have much margin for error - slip up and suddenly you'll only have 40 points and no chance at all. But you do need to be sure it's going to help. Those 9 GCSEs? If they are all at grade C, then two Es at A level's about all you'd expect to be able to achieve.Loads of people don't have GCSE in ICT. That isn't an issue. Why do you care how near you the course is? We're talking England here, not the US. The world won't end if you have to get on a train to Manchester at the start and end of term.
