I was thinking about getting a Sony or Gateway Laptop, since those seem to be good picks according to consumer reports. However, just read and article in the morning paper, it stated WI-FI a minute or so ago and it said WI-FI damages trees. The effects is due to the laser technology and radiation stuff. I usually don't believe the news paper media unless it is whether or environmental related. however, I can't help but wonder what it will do to me ? Some scientist say it conclusive some, who are pressured by big companies say no well it is still being studied and some say well it may be a couple of years before they release the that info the world is not ready yet and too many people like the products. Can you imagine radiation all around you going through you because if this.? what are your thought. German and dutch are going to ban wi-fi by the end of next year according to the tribune and china may shortly follow. WEIRD. Any body out there heard anything like this WI-FI damaging trees. What do you think about WI-FI damage do you think everyone using it at the same time is really affecting. Laptops are expensive? I don't think many people own them because they are expensive. so How can that be. I was wondering how many people own a laptop in the is. Maybe if I knew the answer this I could make a better judgment.let me know your thoughts on this. maybe switch to a regular desk top with dial-up since new laptop don't have dial up ports on them. AWow, you got a lotta stuff in this....1. "dont believe paper media" Guess what, its ALLLLLL media, no matter whether its print, tv, radio, comics, yahoo answers, other websites, mags at the grocery store, advertising on billboards, product packagings, etc, etc, etc, etc its all media, its all selling you something, and 90% of it world wide is owned by the same 5 for profit mega corps.2. LOTS of people own laptops. Yeah, they are expensive, cars are so expensive you can buy a house for what some cars cost, but most people have them unless you live in the city and dont need one. Having a computer, specifically a laptop, is starting to become a necessity, not a luxury, at least for the adult world. Then again, I know many people who function perfectly well without a computer at all. It really depends on your background, what ya like and what ya do for a living.3. Virtually everything about computers (not just wifi) is damaging our enviroment. And a lot of the toxic waste gets dumped in China and Asia, which is probably why they are wanting to ban computer related things. I bet you would too if the sh*t was dumped in YOUR back yard,4. You will NEVER use dial up regularly if you have been exposed to broad band. You dont have to have wifi to have broadband though. I mean, cable modem, fiber optics, dsl. There are other options.5. Wondering if "enough" people in the US does something to make it ok is the WORST way to evaluate whether or not something is damaging to the enviroment. What the gov says is probably the next worst way. For that matter, neither option are good for finding out if its safe for YOU.6. How do you find out if its ok? Do the freaking research. Get on that computer or go the library and do the research.

Best Answer : by eri at 27 February 2010 03:02:24See the 1 Answers more for this question With the IPCC caught AGAIN producing Bad Science, is it time to disband this 'organization of incompetence'?Global Warming at 07 February 2010 11:02:58 QFrom The Sunday Times February 7, 2010"Top British scientist says UN panel is losing credibility"Jonathan Leake, Environment Editor A LEADING British government scientist has warned the United Nations’ climate panel to tackle its blunders or lose all credibility.Robert Watson, chief scientist at Defra, the environment ministry, who chaired the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) from 1997 to 2002, was speaking after more potential inaccuracies emerged in the IPCC’s 2007 benchmark report on global warming. The most important is a claim that global warming could cut rain-fed north African crop production by up to 50% by 2020, a remarkably short time for such a dramatic change. The claim has been quoted in speeches by Rajendra Pachauri, the IPCC chairman, and by Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general.This weekend Professor Chris Field, the new lead author of the IPCC’s climate impacts team, told The Sunday Times that he could find nothing in the report to support the claim. The revelation follows the IPCC’s retraction of a claim that the Himalayan glaciers might all melt by 2035.The African claims could be even more embarrassing for the IPCC because they appear not only in its report on climate change impacts but, unlike the glaciers claim, are also repeated in its Synthesis Report. This report is the IPCC’s most politically sensitive publication, distilling its most important science into a form accessible to politicians and policy makers. Its lead authors include Pachauri himself.Speaking at the 2008 global climate talks in Poznan, Poland, Pachauri said: “In some countries of Africa, yields from rain-fed agriculture could be reduced by 50% by 2020.” In a speech last July, Ban said: “Yields from rain-fed agriculture could fall by half in some African countries over the next 10 years.”Speaking this weekend, Field said: “I was not an author on the Synthesis Report but on reading it I cannot find support for the statement about African crop yield declines.”Watson said such claims should be based on hard evidence. “Any such projection should be based on peer-reviewed literature from computer modelling of how agricultural yields would respond to climate change. I can see no such data supporting the IPCC report,” he said. The claims in the Synthesis Report go back to the IPCC’s report on the global impacts of climate change. It warns that all Africa faces a long-term threat from farmland turning to desert and then says of north Africa, “additional risks that could be exacerbated by climate change include greater erosion, deficiencies in yields from rain-fed agriculture of up to 50% during the 2000-20 period, and reductions in crop growth period (Agoumi, 2003)”.“Agoumi” refers to a 2003 policy paper written for the International Institute for Sustainable Development, a Canadian think tank. The paper was not peer-reviewed.Its author was Professor Ali Agoumi, a Moroccan climate expert who looked at the potential impacts of climate change on Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria. His report refers to the risk of “deficient yields from rain-based agriculture of up to 50% during the 2000–20 period”.These claims refer to other reports prepared by civil servants in each of the three countries as submissions to the UN. These do not appear to have been peer-reviewed either. The IPCC is also facing criticism over its reports on how sea level rise might affect Holland. Dutch ministers have demanded that it correct a claim that more than half of the Netherlands lies below sea level when, in reality, it is about a quarter. The errors seem likely to bring about change at the IPCC. Field said: “The IPCC needs to investigate a more sophisticated approach for dealing with emerging errors.”http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article7017907.eceAddendum: “Ali Agoumi, is not a climate scientist, as such. Although he seems to have worked for Morocco's Ministry of Land-use Management, Water and the Environment, he currently seems to make his living from drawing up carbon credit applications under the UN's clean development mechanism. He has worked as consultant for the firm Ecosecurities, a company which specialises in carbon trading.”http://eureferendum.blogspot.com/2010/02/and-now-for-africagate.html AAs Paul B may or may not know, the left wing rag The Guardian has also been bashing the IPCC: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/feb/05/rajendra-pachauri-hacked-climate-science-emails
