Best Answer : by Noone at 23 September 2010 12:09:25 Does an Admiral out rank a Marine General?Military at 16 October 2009 10:10:57 QGiven that the Admiral is a four star in charge of say the 7th Fleet and the General who serves in the United States Marine Corps, yet not the Commandant but in charge of a MEF. Who holds the greater rank if all else being equal. Same time in, time at, DoB, etc. Often I have understood that Marines are always subordinate to the Navy. IE: There has never been a provision of a Five Star General of the Marine Corps. AYour Question is moot as Fleet Command and MEF Commands are not 4-star billets in their respective branches. If they are equal rank and not in the same chain of command then: If the Duty assignment is not a factor than TIG/DOR (Time in Grade or Date of Rank, TIS (Time in Service), DOB (Date of Birth, really born on same day??) are all equal then time of birth would be an option.Four-star grades go hand-in-hand with the positions of office they are linked to, so these ranks are temporary. Officers may only achieve four-star grade if they are appointed to positions that require the officer to hold such a rank. Their rank expires with the expiration of their term of office, which is usually set by statute. The standard tour length for most four-star positions is three years, bundled as a two-year term plus a one-year extension, with exceptions.Four-star officers are nominated for appointment by the President from any eligible officers holding a one-star grade or above, who also meets the requirements for the position, under the advice and/or suggestion of their respective executive department secretary, service secretary, and if applicable the Joint Chiefs. The nominee must be confirmed via majority by the Senate before the appointee can take office and thus assume the rank. There are currently 41 active duty four-star officers in the uniformed services of the United States: 11 in the Army, 11 in the Navy, 14 in the Air Force, 4 in the Marine Corps, 1 in the Coast Guard. The Following are the only current 4-star USMC billets:Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC)Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps (ACMC)Commander, U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM)Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (VJCS) I Marine Expeditionary Force, II Marine Expeditionary Force, III Marine Expeditionary Force, and Marine Forces Reserve are all Lt. Gen. or 3-Star Billets (Marine Forces Reserve btw is the largest command in the U.S. Marine Corps.). A Marine Expeditionary Force or MEF (formerly known as a Marine Amphibious Force) is the largest type of a Marine Air-Ground Task Force. The Marine Corps' counterpart under the Department of the Navy is the United States Navy. As a result, the Navy and Marine Corps have a close relationship, more so than with other branches of the military. Whitepapers and promotional literature have commonly used the phrase "Navy-Marine Corps Team", or to "the Naval Service". Both the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) and Commandant of the Marine Corps report directly to the Secretary of the Navy.Cooperation between the two services begins with the training and instruction of Marines. The Corps receives a significant portion of its officers from the United States Naval Academy and Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC). NROTC staff includes Marine instructors, while Marine drill instructors contribute to training of officers in the Navy's Officer Candidate School. Marine aviators are trained in the Naval Aviation training pipeline.Training alongside each other is viewed as critical, as the Navy provides transport, logistical, and combat support to put Marine units into the fight, for example, the Maritime Prepositioning ships and naval gunfire support. Most Marine aviation assets ultimately derive from the Navy, with regards to acquisition and funding, and Navy aircraft carriers typically deploy with a Marine squadron alongside Navy squadrons. Marines do not recruit or train noncombatants such as chaplains or medical/dental personnel; naval personnel fill these roles. Some of these sailors, particularly Hospital Corpsmen and Religious Programs Specialists, generally wear Marine uniforms emblazoned with Navy insignia. Conversely, the Marine Corps is responsible for conducting land operations to support naval campaigns, including the seizure of naval and air bases. Both services operate a network security team in conjunction.Marines and Sailors share many naval traditions, especially terminology and customs. Marine Corps Medal of Honor recipients wear the Navy variant of this and other awards; and with few exceptions, the awards and badges of the Navy and Marine Corps are identical. The Navy's Blue Angels flight demonstration team is staffed by both Navy and Marine officers and enlisted men, and includes a Marine C-130 Hercules aircraft. In your situation a Vice Admiral and a Lt. General would be equals, unless one was appointed over the other due to requirements of duty assignment or combined force structure: i.e. the USMC Commandant & Assistant Commandant are both 4-stars but the Commandant outranks the other 4-star due to duty position and assignment as his superior officer.

Semper Fidelis"The safest place in Korea was right behind a platoon of Marines. Lord, how they could fight!"MGen. Frank E. Lowe, USA; Korea, 26 January 1952"The United States Marine Corps, with its fiercely proud tradition of excellence in combat, its hallowed rituals, and its unbending code of honor, is part of the fabric of American myth."Thomas E. Ricks; Making the Corps, 1997 "The Marine Corps has just been called by the New York Times, 'The elite of this country.' I think it is the elite of the world."Admiral William Halsey, U.S. Navy "The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!"Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States, 1945 http://oldcorps.org/USMC/quotes.html Athe marine corps will never change unlike the army has. We stick to our traditions and thats what makes us great. Why does every marine have a sticker in his rear window? You dont see every army guy doing it... Its because we love what we do and we are the most disciplined group of individuals in the world. heres a clip you might find interesting watch it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5jRawaB1tY

I read in a USMC book that even the Commandant is damn proud to be called a Marine. So that means he should be proud to be as fit as a regular grunt. Unlike the other services where the top guys do not wanna be called sailors, soldiers, or airmen. That is why i am asking. Thank You!!! AOf course he has to pass a pft, why would he not? He also has to qualify with his rifle each year just like ever other Marine. It' called "leadership by example."More USMC info.http://futurejarheads.webs.com/

Best Answer : by Tryg at 20 November 2010 08:11:54See the 2 Answers more for this question Why does the Army need nice accommodations in Afghanistan?Military at 06 September 2010 12:09:18 QWhen the Commandant of the Marine Corps says the Marines are confortable sleeping in holes. He went on to say that Marines can live comfortably in what to other people looks like a moonscape. Just recently, Conway visited a Marine in Helmand Province who was sleeping in a hole in the ground – "below the shrapnel line,'' Conway assured me.Conway was enjoying a modest dig at the Army and the U.S. Central Command, which has issued a directive saying no troops can be sent to Afghanistan until additional living facilities are constructed. ("That's not a description of the United States Marine Corps,'' Conway huffed.)But his insistence that Marines can live in the dirt (and prefer it!) raises an important point about the cost of the new strategy and the "surge'' of 30,000 troops announced two weeks ago by President Obama. Most of the additional troops being sent to Afghanistan are not Marines and will not be living in the dirt.http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/12/16/hq-to-marines-in-afghanistan-sleep-in-a-hole/ AYour link went to the home page rather than to the specific article. I did a quick google and read the rather amusing article.Gen. Conway made the comment tongue-in-cheek, I'm sure you already knew that. Yes, he had just made a trip to Afghanistan in the middle of December and some Marines were sleeping in holes as they are likely to do in combat. As the portion you copied says, he was making a dig at the Army for spending too much money for temporary quarters.Point made by Gen. Conway!
Best Answer : by J D at 06 September 2010 12:09:38See the 4 Answers more for this question Is this letter to Kerry real?Military at 07 November 2006 01:11:16 QSenator Kerry,Nov. 1, 2006Damn you!!. You are a bumbling idiot. My son, Cory, left the Computer Engineering Program at West Virginia University, a superlative educationalinstitution, to volunteer to serve in the United States Marine Corps. He made it to Recon in less than one year, completing over a dozen schools, finishing with top scores in every single one of them. Cory, along with every Recon Marine, was/is a brilliant young man. They all volunteered - there is no draft as there was when you were in the Armed Forces. Cory, along with 3 other Recon Marines, died as the result of an IED explosion in May, 2006. These men, along with their peers, are superior in intellect. How dare you dishonor them by your careless words. You are a stupid, self-absorbed, fool.I am not speaking as a member of any political party - in fact, I support more democrats at this juncture than republicans. But I loathe the disdain you display for my son and those whose magnificent service was given for something they held so dear to their hearts - freedom.I pray that your political future is doomed. You are a detriment to every democrat with whom you associate. If in deed, your words were, as you say, intended as a joke, then you are heartless. My son's life is certainly more than a joke. He and these almost 3,000 young men and women who have died with him, are much more valued and loved than to be used as pawns in your own petty political pundits. You were not misunderstood. You were clearly heard and understood by us all. You were on national television. You are utterly disrespectful of our sons and of us, their families. I will work tirelessly to bring you down. You discredit every member of the Armed Forces. Not only are these troops more savvy than ever before in history, so are their commanding officers, many of whom have advanced educational degrees. You, John Kerry, are nothing but scum. Spare us from the further desecration of our troops and the superlative military minds that truly do serve our nation. Remove yourself from the limelight and step down from office, NOW.VERY sincerely,Mrs. Danna Swain Palmer, Proud Mom of Fallen Marine,Cpl. AWhat a great letter. Mrs. Palmer said it all and in a very dignified way. After reading it, I checked at www.snopes.com to see if it was real, but couldn't find anything under politics, military or John Kerry about it. I'm guessing that means that it's very real. If that's the case, kudos to Mrs. Palmer. She handled the whole situation wonderfully. John Kerry is a disgrace to America. He should be ashamed and not trying to cover his tracks. I can only hope that more people stand up the way Mrs. Palmer has and make their voices heard.
Best Answer : by HEartstrinGs at 07 November 2006 03:11:01See the 6 Answers more for this question My "Marines Vs Army-Marines overcome all Essay?Military at 17 May 2010 09:05:57 QAny opinions or the "natural auto-bias defense comments" welcomed. Oh & there is no need for a "We all fight on same team, same country blah blah blah line- I know this. This is an essay about quality of training.U.S. Marine Corp versus U.S. Army: Marines overcome allU.S. Marines have proven more of an elite military force than that of the U.S. Army. Throughout American history since the development and birthright of the reputable U.S. Marine Corp and the liberated U.S. Army, there has been an ongoing rival of interest within these two respected military branches along with a controversial dispute in civilian society on which of these two branches posses the most significantly induced training, organized troops, availability Combat support and overall endurance and readily preparation for War. Since the U.S. Marine Corp training capabilities and training far more exceed those of the U.S. Army for reasons which will further be emphasized, I strongly believe through my personal experience and perception that the U.S. Marine Corps is the most proficiently utilized, well organized U.S. Governed Armed Force ever developed since their establishment dated in 1775. First of all, the U.S. Marine Corps has a partnered service agreement with the U.S. Navy under the Department of the Navy. The Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) and Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps are the head leaders of their respected services, Who in which reports directly to the Secretary of the Navy, a civilian who heads the Department of the Navy. As a result of this organized relationship, the U.S. Marine Corps have a joining force more so than any branch of the United States Military. For example, the Marines are initially more deployable , as the Marine Amphibious Units are afloat on U.S. Navy ships, including light armored vehicles and helicopters. As the U.S. Army showed in Desert Shield, to bring a fully-equipped Army division takes several days to weeks of slow transport ships and heavy C-5 starlifter aircraft. U.S. Army Maj. Gen Frank Lowe once said, “The safest place in Korea was right behind a platoon of Marines. Lord, how they could fight!” Statement made after the Korean War. Secondly, because the military is under civilian control, it is the duty of each and every citizen to ensure that our military branches are the most effective they can possibly be, and receives the best tools and most effective training that can be procured. There is without a doubt no comparison between the U.S. Marine Corps Basic Training versus the U.S. Army Training. Basic Training for a promising future Marine consist of a thirteen-week endurance and overall physical and mental toughness journey consisting of culminating events, with a finalized “rite of passage” test called “The Crucible”. All Recruits must use all elements of Basic Training to put to the test. Instilled discipline with a gender segregated environment, the U.S. Marine Corps eliminates all means of distraction to enhance and bring forth Basic Training to its most promising level with a more devined approach. Training is kept strong and consistant with out the differential strength and agility categorized between both opposing genders. Consequently, newly formed U.S. Marines consider themselves superior to other soldiers inducing understandable resentment from the U.S. Army.In summary, W. Thomas Smith Jr. article “Return of the Marines” National Review, March, 2004 illustrates how during the first Gulf War in 1991, Iraqi soldiers nicknamed the U.S. Marine Corp soldiers as “Angles of Death”. Many soldiers were dropped along the coastline near the fearless Marine platoons only to be paralyzed by the acclaimed great elite force. The U.S. Marine Corp was the very first ground force in Vietnam. AWell, at least one piece of your information is slightly skewed because most people do not understand what the term "Military Adviser" meant in Vietnam. Before those Marines showed up in March of 1965 in Vietnam, there were already 15,000 U.S. troops inland. The first casualties were in 1959, a U.S. Army Major and MSGT. The 400 U.S. Army Special Forces that were there weren't just setting in a classroom or on a training field showing the ARVN soldiers how to fight, that's not how they work. They do their teaching right in the middle of combat.I will agree that Marine Corps basic training is the most demanding physically of all the branches of the military, but I do not agree that it is the best simply because it is the most demanding. Marines are known for their fierce fighting ability. However, so are the U.S. Army soldiers. The Marines can land quickly, but only if there are U.S. Naval ships in the area. The U.S. Army Rangers and Airborne can be deep behind enemy lines within hours, not days via their own transportation methods. See ships travel more slowly than aircraft.See, we could go back and forth with which is better trained and more efficient, but it comes down to what the mission requirements are. If you need a quick strike force to set up a beach head or take a single objective then you call the Marines. If you need a force with multiple and variable mission roles over an entire country with sustainable reserves, you call the U.S. Army.
